Abstract: A mooring system for an Ocean Wave Energy Converters (OWEC) includes multiple structural members such as legs and braces that are linearly extendible and connected using mobile joints, each joint providing two degrees of freedom for rotations about the joint. Mobile joints also attach bottom ends of the legs to mooring points. A jacking system can change lengths of the extensible structural members to adjust depth of the OWEC for operation or for storm safety, to lift the OWEC out of the water for maintenance, or to align the OWEC to an incoming wave direction.

Abstract: The dock leveling system is a device to quickly and easily alter the height of the lake dock without necessitating getting into the water. The system can be installed into existing docks, or could potentially be sold with new docks. The system accomplishes the purpose of altering the height of the lake dock by the movement of a lower and upper clamp, each connected to the two foot threaded rod by an angle iron. Using a cordless drill, the top nut can be rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise. Clockwise movement of the top nut brings the two clamps together, raising the dock. Reversely, counter-clockwise movement of the top nut distances the two clamps from each other, lowering the dock frame.

Abstract: A system and method of drilling oil and gas wells in arctic or other environments having adverse conditions. A marine hydrocarbon operations structure may comprise a caisson body having a top surface which defines an opening and a shaft positioned within the opening. The shaft has an engagement member positioned on the external surface of the shaft. A lower jack house system is constructed and arranged to change the vertical position of the shaft through interaction with the engagement member. An operations platform supported by the shaft.

  • Patent number: 8851799
Abstract: A jack-up rig while in open water operates with the hull jacked up out of the water. However, in the event of ice conditions, the legs are held in place by cans embedded in the sea floor to resist lateral movement of the rig and the hull is lowered into the water into an ice defensive configuration. The hull is specifically shaped with an ice-bending surface to bend and break up ice that comes in contact with the hull while in the ice defensive configuration.

  • Patent number: 8807875
Abstract: The invention relates to an ice worthy jack-up rig with a conical piled monopod working together to drill wells and produce hydrocarbons in ice prone locations. The inventive rig would work like a conventional jack-up rig while in open water with the hull jacked up out of the water. However, in the event of ice conditions, the legs are held in place by cans embedded in the sea floor to resist lateral movement of the rig and in sockets attached to the conical piled monopod. Both the hull and conical piled monopod are shaped with ice-bending surfaces to bend and break up ice that comes into contact.

Abstract: The invention relates generally to a method for supporting non-buoyant offshore drilling units that are anchored to the sea floor and are subject to heavy lateral loads. Specifically, tension tendons are attached to piled foundations to prevent jack-ups from being overturned by the loads. Tension can also be applied to the tendons to provide additional hold down forces to the offshore units.

  • Publication number: 20140147216
Abstract: A method of estimating the environmental force acting on a supported jack-up vessel is described. The vessel is positioned in a force determination position and the strain on at least one support leg of the jack-up vessel is measured while a first thrust is applied to the vessel. A second thrust is applied to the vessel whilst the vessel is maintained in the force determination position. The variation in the strain in the at least one support leg is monitored as the second thrust is applied and the strain is used to calculate an estimate of the environmental force acting on the vessel. The method allows a dynamic positioning (DP) system of the jack-up vessel to determine a suitable thrust to apply to the vessel as the support legs of the vessel are raised. By applying this suitable thrust the position of the vessel can be maintained when the vessel transitions from being supported by the support legs to being supported by water.
