  • Patent number: 11828034
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for performing site preparation work when building a single-axis tracker solar power plant. An installation and assembly machine is outfitted with a positioning system. At the time of installation, a reference laser is located at one end of an intended tracker row and is aligned positionally with an intended axis of rotation of the tracker (e.g., the tracker torque tube). The machine is moved to the first desired installation location based on the positioning information so that the laser beam impinges on a target on the machine. The distance between the laser and target is measured. A portion of the machine containing the target is moved with respect to the beam until the measured distance is equal to a predetermined distance. Once the correct distance is confirmed, the portion of the machine containing the target may be moved to confirm that the machine mast is oriented correctly in other axes including Y, Z and yaw.

  • Patent number: 11313227
Abstract: A device that allows for the sequential operations of hole drilling, resin and catalyst insertion and rod insertion in a single machine is provided. The drilling part uses a regular mining drilling machine that is fitted onto the device. Once the hole is drilled, a pipe is inserted into the hole. There are two possible versions of the pipe, a single pipe configured to work with an air cannon shooting resin tubes and a co-joined double pipe to inject resin and a catalyst in separate co-joined pipes so as to emerge unmixed at the end of the pipes. The next step consists in screwing in the rod into the hole, the twisting motion mixes resin and catalyst and in a matter of seconds, the rod is fully inserted and the chemical reaction has started. Because of the speed and accuracy of insertion and the thoroughness of mixing, more catalyst than usual can be used for a faster hardening of the resin, which secures the rod much better and faster.

  • Patent number: 9074338
Abstract: A manhole liner and a method of using the same are provided. The manhole liner is sized substantially equally to the largest diameter of the manhole, so that the liner does not have to stretch to be pressed against the manhole wall. Additionally, the liner is impregnated with a resinous material capable of curing and hardening. A bladder, preferably stretchable circumferentially and having a diameter less than the smallest diameter of the manhole, is inserted into the liner. The bladder is expanded to press the liner against the wall of the manhole to dispense resinous material from the liner, while the liner is able to fold over itself in areas having a diameter less than the original diameter of the liner. Because the bladder stretches to produce a smooth outside surface, the resinous material will migrate to areas in the folds and will cure with a smooth interior surface.

  • Patent number: 8152418
Abstract: Embodiments provide an apparatus and methods for providing a nonlabor-intensive process for preventing backfill entering, or environmental factors eroding, a cavity formed in the ground. Preventing cavity degradation involves constructing a chemically-inflatable bag that separates two or more chemical reactants by creases and cylindrical coils formed in the chemically-inflatable bag. The creases typically act as watertight releasable seals that separate the chemical reactants while the cylindrical coils resist unintentional compromise of the releasable seals. However, the cylindrical coils are designed to give way upon the user applying an unfurling action on the chemically-inflatable bag; thus, furnishing a passageway for the chemical reactants to intermix and initiate a chemical reaction. The chemical reaction produces carbon dioxide as a by-product, which expands the chemically-inflatable bag from a collapsed condition to an inflated condition.

  • Patent number: 7850401
Abstract: A method of applying polyacrylamide (PAM) for stabilizing soil particles of a land area from movement about the land area. The slope of the surface of the soil is measured, and a tentative application rate is determined based upon the slope of the land area. The stability of the soil of the land area is determined by placing a sample of the soil in a tray and pouring a liquid over the sample and evaluating the erosion potential of the soil by measuring any movement of the soil in the liquid. The liquid may be water or a mixture of water and PAM. The application rate may be increased above the tentative application rate if the soil sample showed a relatively higher vulnerability to erosion. An application rate is calculated for applying a mixture of PAM and water to the land area. The mixture is misted onto the surface of the land area in one or more mixture applications. An application of the mixture is continued until the top surface of the soil of the land area becomes saturated.

Abstract: This invention is concerned with a method and apparatus to measure soil water content. A sensor electrode assembly comprised of a sensor electrode fixed to a spherical shape is implanted in undisturbed soil at the bottom of a low narrow hole in the soil under evaluation. A second electrode is implanted in adjacent soil. Water is adsorbed on the surface of the sensor electrode in proportion to the water in the soil. Electrical charge layers are present at the sensor electrode/water interface due to dissolved oxygen in the adsorbed water. These charge layers result in an interfacial capacitance whose magnitude varies with the amount of water in the soil. Under the assumption that the capacitance of the second electrode/adjacent soil interface is constant, the change in capacitance across the two wires connected to the two electrodes give a measure of the change in soil water content. Energy flow during this measurement is unidirectional, that is, from the interfacial capacitance to the measuring device.
