Abstract: Ultrafine powder is stored in a pneumatic transportation tank (20), and is discharged to a transporting conduit (23) while being fluidized by the pressurized air fed through a fluidizing air port (24). The ultrafine powder is fed to a weigher (30) provided at the other end of the transporting conduit (23), at which the weight of the transported ultrafine powder is weighed by a load cell (31). After the weighed value reaches 90% of a predetermined value, the fed amount of the pneumatic transportation air is reduced, and a bypass regulating valve (38) is adjusted to thus decelerate the transportation. When the weighed value reaches 100% of the predetermined value, the discharge of the ultrafine powder to the transporting conduit (23) is stopped. This method and the apparatus enable the storage, quantitative batch transportation, and automatic weighing of the ultrafine powder such as silica fume.

A closed air circuit draws the particulate material into the reservoir from an external storage bin or container. The closed air circuit includes air supply and return conduits communicating with the interior of the reservoir, and a fan unit which circulates air through the conduits. The fan unit draws air from the interior of the reservoir, and forces the air into an inlet end of the supply conduit. A gap is maintained at the junction of the air supply and return conduits external to the reservoir, and supply conduit air flows are guided by a nozzle across the gap into the return conduit. The junction is inserted into the storage container thereby introducing the particulate material into the path of the closed air circuit.

Abstract: A silo for mixing dried and powdery materials such as cement. A number of discharge apertures positioned at different places at the bottom of a mixing silo are connected by conduits to a common receptacle such as an homogenizing silo. A flow control gate is coupled to each discharge aperture to allow material flow to the receptacle to be controlled. Three modes of operation are disclosed: a single flow-mode wherein the flow control gates are opened sequentially one at a time, a dual-flow-same-rate mode wherein pairs of flow control gates are sequentially opened to the same extent, and a dual-flow-different-rate mode wherein pairs of flow control gates are sequentially opened to different extents. A level sensor in the homogenizing silo is connected to a level indicator circuit which emits level indicator signals indicating whether the material in the receptacle is rising or falling, thereby allowing automatic adjustment of the material flow rate into the receptacle up to a predetermined cut-off level.

  • Patent number: 4379663
Abstract: A weight sensitive arrangement for controlling the material draw cycle of a vacuum sequencing system based on the weight of material delivered to a pellet receiver included in the system. The material is drawn by a vacuum into the receiver under the control of a dump valve. The receiver deflects downwardly when loaded and is equipped with a U-shaped deflection beam having an upper arm that deflects in proportion to the receiver deflection. A screw carried on the upper arm of the beam contacts a microswitch when the receiver is loaded to a preselected weight. The microswitch then activates the dump valve to interrupt the vacuum, thereby terminating the material draw cycle and effecting discharge of the batch of material in the pellet receiver.
