  • Patent number: 7052215
Abstract: A cutting tool with a sensor according to the present invention includes an electrically conductive substrate, an insulation film provided on a surface of the electrically conductive substrate, and a sensor circuit of an electrically conductive film provided on the insulation film. The insulation film includes two consecutive insulation layers. Even if the plural insulation layers each have defects such as cracks and pinholes which possibly impair the insulation property impair the insulation film, the defects present in the plural layers are unlikely to be continuous. Therefore, the insulation film has an improved insulation reliability, thereby ensuring proper function of the sensor circuit in the cutting tool.

Abstract: An improved cutting insert with chip control features and a method for manufacturing the same. An insert body having peripheral end wall regions, sides and first and second walls is adapted for mounting in a pocket in a holder. The insert body has cutting edges and is adaptable for engagement by a toolholder assembly. A land region extends rearwardly from the end wall region and defines a surface region of a predetermined width. A descending wall initiates in a portion of the land and terminates in a planar floor region having a forward, a rearward and opposed side edges. A back ramp extends upwardly from the planar floor rearward edge and terminates at the respective top or bottom wall. The end wall region can include at least one flat land region adjacent the land region. The flat land region defines a selectively removable portion of the end wall region and after any selective removal thereof represents no more than approximately one-third of the total width of the end wall region.

Abstract: A novel construction of a single blade fly cutter type generator wheel. The wheel incorporates a single polycrystalline blade. The blade is counterbalanced by a cut-out portion. An abrasive grit material is provided on a surface of the wheel rim which follows the polycrystalline blade. The abrasive grit cooperates with the blade such that it breaks down large turnings generated by the blade during cutting operations to increase efficiency of the wheel and allows the use of only one blade. An improved method for drilling or cutting of composites is provided wherein softer layers of the composites are not adversely affected during the cutting or drilling operation.

The diamond tool has a main cutting edge and minute side cutting edges formed at the opposite ends of the main cutting edge so as to intersect the main cutting edge at an angle. The dept .DELTA. of chamfer of the side cutting edge is 1.5 to 5 times the depth of tears formed in the machined surface (0.1 .mu.m.ltoreq..DELTA..ltoreq.1 .mu.m) and the length l.sub.2 of the side cutting edged is 1.5 to 10 times the feed of the diamond tool (0.02 mm.ltoreq.l.sub.2 .ltoreq.0.8 mm). The rake face of the diamond tool comprises two rake faces and two side rake faces. A tool grinding surface plate for manufacturing the diamond tool has a flat surface for grinding the rake faces, and a circumferential tapered surface for grinding the side rake faces.

Abstract: A thermal recording system is used as a recorder in a facsimile equipment or the like, and usually has a first operational mode in which picture data being read out at a pitch of M lines/mm is recorded at a pitch of M lines/mm and a second operational mode in which picture data being read out at a pitch of (M/n) lines/mm are repetitively recorded for every n lines at a pitch of M lines/mm. In particular, in the second operational mode of the system, activation time periods of a thermal head in the repetitive recording of every n lines are controlled to be sequentially shorter as the lines advance, whereby a recording time in the second operational mode can be reduced and the deterioration of the recorded picture quality can be prevented.
