Patent number: 5718544Abstract: A base member such as an elevation pipe of a photographic tripod is severed and rack teeth are formed thereon in a single operation while the base member remains clamped in a V-block. The first rack tooth on each side of the location where the base member is severed includes half of a trough portion between adjacent rack teeth. Additional trough portions forming the remainder of the teeth are formed, either in the same severing and shaping operation, or in a later shaping operation. The formation of the inner half trough portions ensures that, when the two severed ends of the base member are brought together, a smooth transition will exist between the two rack portions. In addition, since the two severed ends always include half troughs immediately adjacent thereto, weaknesses and chipping resulting from the presence of partial rack teeth in these locations is avoided.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1996Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: Nihon Velbon Seiki Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Koichiro Nakatani

Patent number: 5092720Abstract: A method for determination of longitudinal and profile modification of tool gear tooth (I) which linearly meshes with a gear to be machined, wherein modification parameters are determined from the following relationship: ##EQU1## where: .delta.--the amount of modification of the tool gear tooth (I) in a direction perpendicular to a radius r identifying the location of a contact point on a machining surface (5) relative to a centre (O) of rotation of the tool gear;p--the requisite change in the normal component of the cutting force;G--the rigidity of an arrangement providing for synchronous rotation of the gear blank and the tool gear as reduced to the tool gear axis.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1991Date of Patent: March 3, 1992Assignee: Saratovskoe Spetsialnoe Konstruktorskoe Bjuro Zuboobrabatyvajuschikh Stankov Saratovskogo StankostroitelnogoInventors: Nikolai A. Patent number: 5007773Abstract: A helical toothed shaving cutter used for finishing or shaving of gears as well as a shaving cutter suitable for plunge cut shaving. The shaving cutter includes a multiplicity of ribs forming the cutter tooth flanks, arranged in a manner substantially symmetrically with respect to each axial centerline of each of the cutter teeth, and each of the ribs has both a positive rake angle at its leading cutting edge and a negative rake angle at its trailing cutting edge as viewed in the direction of lateral sliding direction of along the tooth trace cutter.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1989Date of Patent: April 16, 1991Assignee: Nachi-Fujikoshi CorporationInventors: Koichi Souketani, Yukio Ito, Yoshio Sasaki, Teiji Kurita, Jun Tamiya

Patent number: 4666348Abstract: Thread rolling dies for pointed fasteners having an improved working face contour which promotes displacement of blank material from the blank point area at an early stage in the thread rolling sequence to avoid excessive pressures in the die and blank at the finishing stages of the rolling sequence. Thread cutters include an extend section that presurfaces the rise angle of the die working face to produce uniform, improved thread profiles.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1986Date of Patent: May 19, 1987Assignee: Colt Industries Operating Corp.Inventor: Richard H. Patent number: 4629370Abstract: Disclosed is a sprocket cutter in which there is a cutter body having a plurality of pockets along its periphery and a plurality of wedge recesses facing the periphery within each pocket. There is an array of inserts disposed within each of the pockets, each of the inserts having a cutting portion and a plurality of wedges equal in number to the number of inserts and wedge recesses. Each of the wedges is interposed between each of the inserts and each of the wedge recesses so that, as each of the wedges is moved inwardly into its corresponding wedge recess, each of the inserts is securely clamped between its corresponding wedge and the pocket. Each of the inserts is positioned so that the cutting portion of each insert extends beyond the periphery of the cutter body. Each of the inserts cuts a segment of the sprocket contour as the cutter body rotates with adjacent segments of the sprocket contour being cut by inserts located in different pockets. There is also a method of assembling the sprocket cutter.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1984Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Kennametal Inc.Inventors: Douglas E. Torgent, Robert N. Mitchell

Patent number: 4610577Abstract: A gear or rack-shaped tool for precision machining of tooth flanks of gears is provided with a coating of a hard material like diamond or cubic bornitride (CBN). In order to be able to apply this coating without any problems, the tool includes two connected halves. Each half includes a base member with teeth which project axially beyond one side of the base member every second tooth being removed. The projecting teeth of each half project into the gaps created by the teeth removed from the other half.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1984Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Carl Hurth Maschinen und Zahnradfabrik GmbH & Co.Inventor: Johann Spensberger
