Including Pivotable Seat Or Tool Patents (Class 407/81)
  • Patent number: 8806997
Abstract: An apparatus for the machining of optical workpieces of materials of non-brittle hardness, particularly of plastics material spectacles lenses, has a holder, which is operatively connected with an actuator for reciprocating movement, and a support, which is fixable to the holder and to which a cutting tip of monocrystalline diamond, which has an arcuate cutting edge, is fastened. In order to be able to use the cutting edge over its curve length to avoid of premature wear in the rotary machining, provision is made for a positioning device, by which the support is fixable in at least two different relative positions with respect to the holder to dispose substantially different circumferential sections of the cutting edge for the rotary machining.

  • Patent number: 6295905
Abstract: A toolholder apparatus is provided for holding a cutting tool adjacent a rotating workpiece. The apparatus includes a mounting block base and a mounting block body slidably supported on the base. A first adjustable connector connects the body to the base so that a position of the body on the base can be adjusted in a first direction toward the workpiece. A center adjustment block slidably engages the body. A second adjustable connector connects the center adjustment block and the body so that a position of the center adjustment block on the body can be adjusted in a second direction transverse to the first direction and transverse to the rotational axis of the workpiece. A head is detachably mounted on the center adjustment block. The head is removable from the center adjustment block by sliding movement in a third direction transverse to both of the first and second directions.

  • Patent number: 6024143
Abstract: A cutter tooth assembly for impingement of a material (e.g., a stump, wood, brush or earth strata). The assembly attaches to a driven member (e.g., a rotatable wheel). The assembly includes a cutter tooth which has an elongate body with a leading end and a trailing end, as well as a hard insert at the leading end of the tooth. The assembly also includes a pocket which has a base portion and a holder portion. The pocket attaches to the wheel at the base portion thereof. The cutter tooth is retained to the pocket at the holder portion thereof. The base portion of the pocket has a leading surface and a trailing surface. The cutter tooth is retained by the holder portion of the pocket so that the hard insert extends circumferentially past the leading surface of the base portion of the pocket.

  • Patent number: 5868051
Abstract: A method and apparatus has been developed for metal cutting machine using a cutting die tool that pivots as it cuts a metal workpiece. By pivoting the cutting tool, the orientation of the metal surface being cut in the workpiece may be varied along the cutting path. A particular application of the invention is for screw metal cutting machine, e.g., a Swiss-type screw lathe, that cuts screw threads in screw blank rods, such that the threads have a variable cant along the length of the screw. The cutting die tool is mounted in a tool holder that is pivoted by a computer controller in accordance with machining instructions for the screw or other device being machined.

  • Patent number: 5336026
Abstract: An adjustable cartridge to be mounted in the end of a boring bar, the cartridge including an anvil rotatably affixed to said boring bar, said anvil including a pocket into which a indexable insert is affixed. The anvil is secured in an axially oriented slot which includes an arcuate seating face which includes a key and key way slot. Rotation of the anvil within the slot effects radial adjustment of the insert a key pin serves to pivotally secure the cartridge within the pocket. In addition, the level or back taper of the insert can be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 5320458
Abstract: A cutting tool includes a rotary bar having an arcuate pocket in its side surface, and a segmental carrier arcuately slidable in the pocket to adjust the position of a cutting tip on a cutter blade. The carrier has a second arcuate pocket that slidably receives a segment-shaped shoe, such that the shoe can be arcuately adjusted to control or vary the back taper angle on the blade. The cutting blade is mounted flatwise on one face of the shoe, such that a corner tip on the blade projects beyond the profile of the rotary bar for use in reaming a hole in a workpiece. The adjustment axis of the shoe is coincident with the cutting tip on the reamer blade so that adjusting motions of the shoe do not disturb the position of the cutting tip achieved by arcuate adjustment of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5167176
Abstract: A tool for use with a tool holder has a body to which at least one blade such as a circular saw blade or milling cutter is clamped to prevent the blade from turning when a selected tooth is brought into cutting or grooving contact with a rotating work piece, the blade is of a type having its teeth so spaced and arranged that each tooth is spaced 90.degree. from another tooth. The body of the tool has first and second parallel clamping surfaces through which a straight slot opens. A first or front clamping member has a hub on which a blade is rotatably mounted and which fits the slot and is held thereby against turning. The two clamping members are connected by a threaded member by which the clamping members are drawn towards each other to clamp the blade against the first clamping surface. The slot is disposed and dimensioned so that, in use, it is normal to the axis of the work piece with one end above and the other end below that axis.

  • Patent number: 4750392
Abstract: A hollow housing (20) slidingly retains an extendable body (22) through an open end allowing forward and aft movement. A rotatable tool holding head (34) is adjustably connected to the body (22) and is free to rotate up to 180 degrees. Extendable adjustment in the form of a threaded shaft (44) and handwheel (46) provide the manual expansion movement by rotation of the wheel (46) located on the opposite end as the body (22). Radial movement is afforded by a similar handwheel (50) attached to the head (34) through a drive shaft (48). A slidable end (36) is attached to the head (34) and contains a removable cutting tool (38) that rotatably cuts away material from a rotated workpiece. In a variation of the body (20) an angular shape is added with or without a mounting slot. Also, a pair of servo motors (62) and (64) may replace the handwheels for electromechanical adjustment of the device incorporating another embodiment.

  • Patent number: 4097181
Abstract: A rotary cutting tool having a shank and a head at one end of the shank, the head having a flat bed portion. A clamp for carrying a bit is mounted for rotation on the bed portion for angular adjustment of the bit relative to the bed portion. This clamp has a groove in one of its faces, the bit being axially slidable therein to different extended positions, and the groove has a depth less than the thickness of the bit such that the bit projects laterally from the groove for engagement with the bed portion. As the clamp is drawn toward the bed portion, the bit is clamped in the groove against the bed portion in any predetermined adjusted angular and extended position.
