Patent number: 8246277Abstract: A tool holder for clamping an insert holder has a main block, two clamping members and a single adjustment member. The main block has a longitudinal side surface with a longitudinal groove with upper and lower walls. The two clamping members include mirror symmetrical left and right clamping members interfacing with two inclined non-parallel planar ramping surfaces of the lower wall of the longitudinal groove. A blade-shaped insert holder is mounted in the longitudinal groove on the two clamping members. The adjustment member interfaces with the two clamping members, and when rotated causes each clamping member to move up its respective non-parallel planar ramping surface, decreasing the distance between the two clamping members and the upper wall of the longitudinal groove until a clamping force is uniformly applied between the insert holder and the upper wall of the longitudinal groove.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2009Date of Patent: August 21, 2012Assignee: Iscar, Ltd.Inventor: Gil Hecht

Patent number: 6736574Abstract: An insert holder includes a head having ridge teeth, and an insert seat plate seated on the head such that ridge teeth thereof mesh with the ridge teeth of the head. The plate forms a V-shaped recess in which a cutting insert is to be received. The recess thus defines a position of support for the insert. A bisector of the V-shaped recess extends parallel to the ridge teeth. The insert seat plate is adjustable in the direction of the bisector (e.g., by individually deployable spacer plates of different thickness) to adjust the position of support defined by the V-shaped recess.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2002Date of Patent: May 18, 2004Assignee: Sandvik ABInventors: Conny Persson, Rolf Hagberg

Patent number: 5447395Abstract: A chamfering tool made up of a holder and a double headed blade. The holder is substantially cylindrical, with a bullet nose at one end and a turned down shank at the other end. An angularly offset bore for holding the blade penetrates the bullet nose at an angle to the holder longitudinal axis, and also penetrates the holder cylindrical wall. When the blade is installed in the bore, one or both heads externally expose their respective operating cutting edges. The blade is substantially cylindrical, with cutting edges at each end being perpendicular to and intersecting the longitudinal axis of the blade. The novel arrangement enables the chamfering tool to work in tight quarters, to be readily removed and easily sharpened, and enables both right and left handed cutting by a simple adjustment.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1993Date of Patent: September 5, 1995Inventor: John S. Patent number: 5167473Abstract: A unidirectional insert lock for securing an insert, with a central mounting hole, to a pocket in a cutting tool is provided. The insert lock includes a locking pin having an eccentric and a radially extending lobe, and a shim having an arcuate channel angularly bordered by a first and second stop, that is configured to receive the lobe. The locking pin is inserted through holes in both the insert and the shim so that when the lobe is rotated in one direction the eccentric urges the insert into a secured cutting position within the pocket. However, when the lobe is rotated in the opposite direction the second stop prevents the pin from sufficiently rotating so that the eccentric is not able to urge the insert against the sides of the pocket, and consequently, the insert sits loosely in the pocket so that it is clear to the operator that the insert is not secured in the cutting position.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1991Date of Patent: December 1, 1992Assignee: Allied-Signal Inc.Inventor: Michael J. Patent number: 4722642Abstract: An indexable cutting tool wherein wear-resistant inserts are removably supported within a recess in a tool holder which has walls generally conforming to the adjacent surfaces of the insert. Interposed between the adjacent surfaces of the insert and the walls of the recess is a spacing shim with at least two portions which separate the insert from the walls of the recess. The portions which separate the inserts from the walls of the recess are connected by a weakened portion which may be scored or reduced in dimenson. The shim, as manufactured, is flat with the weakened portions connecting the portions adapted to separate the insert from the recess walls being provided to permit the shim to conform to a variety of insert configurations. The portions of the shim which separate the surfaces of the insert from the walls of the recess have a thickness which is equal to the amount of material removed from the surfaces of the insert in one or more resharpening operations.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1987Date of Patent: February 2, 1988Inventor: James E.
