Pivoted Tool Patents (Class 407/90)
  • Patent number: 8800413
Abstract: A cutting unit includes a detachable head assembly with a cutting insert and holder. The mating spherical surfaces in both parts helps to get freedom of movement, hence helps in getting different rake angles. A set of pins helps getting correct center height for the cutting insert when spherical surfaces of both parts are not in contact with each other. The pins when lifted up gives point contact with spherical surface of the head assembly. The pins are moved in the holes provided in the holder with the help of screw-nut principle. The head assembly is clamped against holder using a clamping ball mechanism. The clamping balls are free to rotate in their respective seating area. Rake angles are changed by turning the head assembly manually. Once the required rake is set, the clamping balls are fastened.

  • Patent number: 4780029
Abstract: A tool holder for a numerically controlled machine tool, in which a cutting edge provided on a base member is adjustable with respect to a reference surface on the base member by adjustment means. The adjustment means comprise a U-shaped slot in the base member. This slot serves to form a pair of lever portions in the material of the base member, which lever portions are connected to each other by an area of the base member serving as a pivot. An adjustment screw threadingly engaging the base member acts upon the free end of one of said lever portions such that upon an adjusting movement of the adjustment screw the first lever portion is deflected in a predetermined direction to thereby deflect the second lever portion of the opposite direction. The second lever portion transmits its movement to the cutting edge by means of a spacing member disposed in the slot (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 4730525
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a cutting tool having a cutting tool insert which is automatically rotationally indexable. The cutting tool includes a shank and an indexable cutting tool insert rotatably connected to the shank. The insert includes a plurality of cutting edges and side surfaces therebetween. The cutting tool is also provided with an indexing device, lock pin, cam plate and eccentric cam pin. The indexing device comprises a sliding key and a pair of spring metal legs attached thereto for engaging a serrated portion of the lock pin to which the cutting tool insert is attached. The indexing device is effective for indexing the insert on the lock pin upon rotation of the cam pin which effects a lateral movement of the cam plate along the longitudinal axis of the shank whereby the cam plate engages the sliding key causing it to also move laterally to engage the indexing legs on the lock pin resulting in rotation of the lock pin and the cutting insert attached thereto.
