Patent number: 5318391Abstract: A work holder is provided for modifying an automatic transmission such that clutch pistons within the automatic transmission receive a unidirectional valve therethrough rather than the associated clutch drum as is typically the case. The work holder includes a base with a horizontal upper surface having a central disk which is sized to fit and retain one clutch piston to the base when the central disk is in one orientation and another clutch piston when the central disk is in another orientation. With the clutch piston securely attached to the work holder, a drill bit guide mounted on the work holder directs a stepped drill bit so that it may bore a hole through the clutch piston for passage of hydraulic fluid therethrough. Two drill bit guides are provided, one for each clutch piston, which each direct one of two of the drill bits to the appropriate location. Once the holes are drilled in each clutch piston a check ball and seat combination are located within each hole thus made.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1992Date of Patent: June 7, 1994Assignee: Linda L. Patent number: 5302057Abstract: The method centers a guide rod, which is inserted in a valve guide of a valve seat to be machined and which serves as a guide rod for a shaping tool. By hand, or with a mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic or electro-mechanical device, the guide rod is centered in the valve guide by means of a pivoting ball which is mounted in a manner such that it can pivot in all directions between two clamping plates and which is held with the possibility of translation between the clamping ring and the bottom of a housing. For this purpose, the pivoting ball is displaced circularly such that the guide rod sweeps all around the valve guide. By means of the follower levers, the shape of the valve guide is determined and, by means of a precise mechanical device, the pivoting ball is placed at the center of the swept shape, where it can be fixed by means of plates and of the clamping ring.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1993Date of Patent: April 12, 1994Assignee: SERDI-Societe d'Etudes de Realisation et de Diffusion IndustriellesInventor: Ruedi Siegfried

Patent number: 4830555Abstract: A cutting tool guide device fits within a window frame in a vertically mounted position. The device guides a cutting tool, such as a router, along the X,Y, and Z coordinates. Simultaneous movement along the X and Y coordinates parallel to the window is possible by means of vertical and horizontal controls which allows any angle or curves to be followed. Measured adjustment along the Z coordinate, perpendicular to the window, is provided by a screw threaded router tool casing mounted in a collar with external measured detentes contacted by a spring loaded ball. Rotary movement of the router is restrained by a slot in the router receiving a-pin. Great precision is obtained in removing glazing from a window sash and in cutting into the rabbit joint of the sash. The cutting allows double pane glass to be inserted into the sash. The cutting tool guide device is adjustable to fit into various sized window frames.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1988Date of Patent: May 16, 1989Inventor: James A. Conachen

Patent number: 4813826Abstract: A jig for use with routers and other augering equipment for cutting the proper openings in a door for the installation of mortise locks. The jig formed in a U-shaped configuration is placed over the edge of the door at a proper height from the door sill or from the heading of the door frame and through a pivotal end plate adjustably positions itself on the door regardless of the contour of the encased edge of the door.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1988Date of Patent: March 21, 1989Inventor: Raymond R. Patent number: 4809424Abstract: A tool comprises clamping members spaced from each other on a plate that clampingly engage a coaxial cable. Drill guide members hingedly connected together are latchably secured together onto the plate and they include opposing holes centrally disposed relative to the clamped cable to enable a drill bit to pass therethrough to drill opposed openings through the jacket and shielding and into the dielectric sheathing around the center conductor, whereafter the drill bit and drill guide members are removed. A housing of the coaxial connector containing stationary and movable signal probes is mounted on the plate to position the signal probes relative to the drilled holes whereafter the signal probes are moved into electrical connection with the center conductor and ground conductor members penetrate the jacket and electrically connect with the shielding.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1982Date of Patent: March 7, 1989Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Edward A. Patent number: 4793747Abstract: Spindle jig mechanism for use in drilling spindle apertures in stair rails, the mechanism including a mounting block adapted to extend along the underside of a stair rail and having a transversely extending cylindrical cavity for receiving a cylindrical support for a tubular guide for a drill to be employed with the jig mechanism. Provision is made for multiple jig mechanisms having a plurality of mounting blocks, each adapted to position different tubular drill guides adapted to cooperate with drills of different sizes.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1988Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Inventor: George J. Patent number: 4790695Abstract: A modular drill jig and method of making same, characterized by parallel base, tool and bushing plates which have precision machined flat and adjacent right angle edge faces defining orthogonal reference planes and axes for aiding in fast, precision lay out of the locations of drill guide bushings and other tooling in the drill jig. The plates are removably assembled in modular fashion on common guide posts. The bushing and tool plates are movable relative to each other for clamping a part to be drilled between opposed parallel clamping faces of such plates. In the manufacture of the drill jig, the adjacent right angle edge faces on the plates enable fast and precision lay out of bores for the guide posts in the plates, such precision lay out ensuring proper vertical alignment of the plates and enabling the desired movement of the tool plate without binding thereof on the guide posts while maintaining the opposed clamping faces of the bushing and tool plates parallel.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1982Date of Patent: December 13, 1988Inventor: Robert R. Abernethy

Patent number: 4765786Abstract: A guide accessory for hand-held electric drills having straight sides. A drill is set up for use simply by inserting it into the guide, where it fits snugly and slides linearly. An enlarged foot section holds the guide perpendicular to the work surface. The foot is abbreviated on one side, permitting the guide to be used close to obstacles. An adjustable stop facilitates drilling holes to precise depths. The stop assembly is also used to tilt the guide for drilling holes at various indicated angles. A stepped "v" block at the bottom of the guide facilitates drilling centered holes in round stock, corners, and the edges of boards. A resilient, transparent material is used in construction to permit viewing the drilling process while protecting the user's eyes. Holes are provided for ventilating the drill and for hanging the guide on a workshop pegboard.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1987Date of Patent: August 23, 1988Inventor: Kris K. Krogh
