Abstract: A control system for an air driven drill is described, wherein the control system is of the kind that provides a feed stroke to a drill bit. The system comprises an interrupt line so that compressed air fed to a feed chamber is also fed to a clamp chamber whereby the unbalanced force on the feed piston becomes balanced so as to stop the feed stroke. An adjustable frequency generator is provided to impose a pulsating pressure variation in an air pressure supply. During a feed stroke under which compressed air is fed to the feed chamber, air fed to the clamp chamber via the interrupt line is caused by the adjustable frequency generator to have a pulsating pressure, so that the feed stroke is caused to be stopped for a first period, then resumed for a second period, to provide a periodically interrupted feed stroke.

Abstract: A reaming machine comprises a machine body; a retractable fixture installed above the machine body, and used to press against a workpiece and fix the workpiece; and a vertical wall, disposed inside the machine body. Two slide rods are installed to the vertical wall. A slide seat is slidably coupled to two slide rods. A driving source is fixed to the slide seat. A piston rod is installed to the bottom of the slide seat. A hydraulic cylinder enables the piston rod to move telescopically. The piston rod further enables the driving source to move up and down. A tool seat is installed to the driving source. A reamer is installed at the top of the tool seat and can ream a hole on the workpiece. As the reamed hole faces downward, the wooden dust and debris generated in reaming will fall into the interior of the machine body.

  • Patent number: 7252464
Abstract: A hydraulic stop for use in drilling or countersinking operations comprises a rotatable body for rotating a tool about its axis. A cage adapted to contact the surface of a workpiece when the tool has penetrated into the workpiece by a predetermined distance actuates a trip mechanism comprising a plunger-operated hydraulic valve as the tool penetrates the workpiece more than the predetermined distance. The plunger is of adjustable length. When actuated the trip mechanism allows the body to shrink in length suddenly. The cage is axially adjustable in relation to the body to set the predetermined depth at which the trip mechanism actuates. A plurality of holes spaced around the circumference of the body to which the cage is mounted allow drainage of coolant whatever the axial position of the cage.

Abstract: In order to facilitate and make more ergonomic the drilling of a multitude of holes in workpieces, particularly in the assembly of large scale components, such as an aircraft body, the power drill is docked to a support by an attachment which engages and locks onto a guide bushing or bore in the support. The attachment assures that the drill bit is precisely axially aligned with a hole to be drilled. The feed advance is performed by a leveraged action controlled by the operator. The leverage can be provided, for example by a Bowden pull cable. The attachment reduces the exertion to be made by the operator, thereby avoiding ergonomically unsatisfactory work positions.

Abstract: A method of drilling and a drill motor are provided for use with a stationary template attached to a material to be drilled. The drill motor has a frame having a handgrip and surrounding a movable carriage or motor assembly. The motor assembly contains an air-powered motor for rotating a drill bit. At least two air cylinders are located in the motor assembly on opposite sides of the drilling axis and are used to move the motor assembly within the frame. The force that can be applied to move the motor assembly is adjusted by adjusting the airflow to the cylinders. Hydraulic restrictions control the maximum speed at which the motor assembly moves. An auto-return valve and adjustable pin provide means for automatically returning the motor assembly to its rearward position once a desired drilling depth has been reached. Controls are provided at the grip for operating the feed system and manually retracting the motor assembly.

  • Patent number: 6722447
Abstract: A power feed apparatus for applying a thrust force to an output shaft of a motor driven tool to drive the output shaft linearly towards and away from a workpiece without applying off-axis forces to the output shaft that would cause it to move out of perfect perpendicular alignment to the outer surface of the workpiece. The apparatus includes a first tubular member which is fixedly secured to a jig or other like mounting structure associated with the workpiece. A second tubular member is disposed for sliding linear movement along the first tubular member. Spaced apart annular fluid chambers are formed within the apparatus along with associated fluid ports for allowing a pressurized fluid to be used to both extend and retract the output shaft of the tool. The tool itself is supported on the second tubular member and thus moves linearly along with the second tubular member.
