Abstract: A system is disclosed that accepts portable power feed drilling equipment and enables the mechanical determination of an existing hole vector and duplication of the hole on the same vector in a new production part. The system allows for extremely accurate match drilling of parts with multiple, variable hole vectors. In addition, the system is adjustable in the Z-axis, which allows infinite and precise drill tip positioning prior to drilling to increase accuracy and manage chip exit. Interchangeable drill adaptors internal to the quill sleeve allow for a wide size range of drills to be used.

  • Patent number: 8021086
Abstract: Embodiments include a method and apparatus for drilling holes or cutting at specified locations on a beam or other material, even if the beam is offset from an ideal beam configuration. In some embodiments, the apparatus is configured to determine the correct locations of holes in the beam despite the beam's offset and drill holes in the beam according to this determination. The apparatus may be capable of drilling holes at specified locations on a web of an I-beam. In some embodiments, the method comprises determining the correct locations of the holes in the particular beam using the apparatus and drilling the holes in the correct locations in the beam according to that determination. Some embodiments include using one or more clamping mechanisms and one or more drilling members to determine the correct locations of the holes in the particular beam.

  • Patent number: 4628171
Abstract: An electrical discharge machining device that is used for both rotational EDM, such as tapping, and the like, and for conventional or non-rotational EDM applications. The device includes a base support to which a carriage is slidably mounted, with a motor driven, rotating electrode assembly mounted thereon. A threaded lead screw is removably coupled to the upper end of the rotating electrode assembly and a mating threaded collar is removably mounted on the support so as to receive the lead screw and thereby advance the carriage as the lead screw is rotated. The lead screw and threaded collar are interchangeable with other lead screws and collars having different thread pitches, so as to regulate the advancement of electrodes having different thread pitches. An electrode is mountable both on the rotating electrode assembly and on the carriage itself.

  • Patent number: 4306464
Abstract: A low cost multi-directional movement cam controlled mechanical positioning apparatus is described for automatically tracing out the path of movement for the working head of a machine tool or the like. The apparatus may be embodied in a single machine providing for three-dimensional movement of the working head with or without additional controlled movement of the working head in either pitch, roll or yaw. Alternatively, the apparatus can be employed to provide additional degrees of movement either along a z-axis and/or in either pitch, roll or yaw to the working head of a two-dimensional automatic machine tool or conventional construction. The apparatus comprises a set of at least three relatively large diameter, disk-type, control-drive cams rotatably supported on a base member for controlling movement of the working head of a machine tool or the like within a plane defined by complementary axes of movement (such as the x-y axes) and along at least one additional degree of movement.

  • Patent number: 4066380
Abstract: The invention relates to a threading tool for internal threads with a cutter holder which is displaceably mounted on a cutter holder carrier shaft co-axial to the main axis of the rotatable tool which coincides with the thread axis during the cutting process, whereby the said cutter holder shaft is moved forwards and backwards periodically with the forward feed corresponding to the thread pitch in the direction of the main axis in the thread chasing operation by a cam control with a camshaft co-axial to the cutter holder shaft and rotating with a differential speed relative thereto, whereby through a corresponding radial displacement of the cutter holder the cutter is raised during return travel and in the thread chasing operation is set to engage lower and lower from one thread chasing operation to the next up to the final cutting depth.

  • Patent number: 4043700
Abstract: This invention comprises a control for moving a headstock longitudinally on a radial arm of a radial drilling machine and for moving the radial arm angularly about the axis of rotation, by moving the headstock a predetermined distance along an X--X axis and also moving said headstock a predetermined distance along a Y--Y axis at right angles to the X--X axis, for bringing the axis of the drill spindle on the headstock from one drilling position to another drilling position. One Servo motor moves the headstock on the X--X axis and another motor moves it on the Y--Y axis. The motors may be programmed to move said headstock automatically. When the headstock is moved on the radial arm along the Y--Y axis, angular movement of the radial arm is accompanied by movement of the headstock longitudinally of the radial arm. Thus, the movement of the headstock along X--X and Y--Y axes, also moves the radial arm angularly.
