    Abstract: A tool accessory used to apply different volumes of a cutting fluid to the tap under CNC control by causing the machine to undergo different pump cycles in which the rotational speed of the tool is increased above the tapping rotated and then quickly returned to the tapping rotation. The tool includes a tapping head, a reservoir filled with cutting fluid, a centrifugal force-reactive pump and at least two discharge nozzles. The pump includes a plurality of biased piston springs that are forced outward and store centripetal force when the tool is rotated at speeds above normal tapping speed. When the rotational speed of the tool is reduced, the piston springs overcome the centrifugal forces and force cutting fluid through the discharge nozzles. The volume of cutting fluid discharged is controlled by adjusting the viscosity of the cutting fluid, the tool's maximum speed, by using different size discharge nozzles, and by using different pump cycles.

The transmission includes a sun gear, a ring gear coaxial with the sun gear and axially shiftable between first and second positions relative to the sun gear and to a fixed clutch component, and a plurality of planet gears between the sun gear and ring gear. The sun gear is motor driven to provide the transmission input, and the planet gears are connected to and drive an output sprocket wheel drivingly connected to the chuck assembly. The first position of the ring gear provides clutched interengagement thereof with the sun gear for rotation therewith, whereby the planet gears rotate therewith to rotate the output sprocket wheel at a first speed equal to the speed of rotation of the sun gear.

    Abstract: A two-speed gear box for handheld electric drills and the like has the movable parts associated with gear changing on or associated with a lay shaft. Gear changing is preferably effected by moving a pair of dogs, slidably mounted in holes through a lay shaft gear, to drivingly engage in either of two dog clutch members on the lay shaft. A thin flexible arm, preferably including a ring around the lay shaft, mounted in cantilever fashion from a movable base effects movement of the dogs. Should the dogs not be in proper register with a respective dog clutch member when changing speed, then the arm flexes and urges the dogs into driving engagement when proper register occurs. A family of two-speed drills having different specialized functions, e.g. a drill, a hammer drill, a screwdriver/drill, a screwdriver, etc., can be produced with the maximum parts in common enabling greater manufacturing flexibility and lower cost of manufacturing the family.
