Patent number: 9981356Abstract: A tool accessory used to apply different volumes of a cutting fluid to the tap under CNC control by causing the machine to undergo different pump cycles in which the rotational speed of the tool is increased above the tapping rotated and then quickly returned to the tapping rotation. The tool includes a tapping head, a reservoir filled with cutting fluid, a centrifugal force-reactive pump and at least two discharge nozzles. The pump includes a plurality of biased piston springs that are forced outward and store centripetal force when the tool is rotated at speeds above normal tapping speed. When the rotational speed of the tool is reduced, the piston springs overcome the centrifugal forces and force cutting fluid through the discharge nozzles. The volume of cutting fluid discharged is controlled by adjusting the viscosity of the cutting fluid, the tool's maximum speed, by using different size discharge nozzles, and by using different pump cycles.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2016Date of Patent: May 29, 2018Inventor: Jerome D Sailing

Patent number: 4789274Abstract: A boring apparatus has a rotary member rotated by a motor, a transmission shaft transmitting its rotation to an electric drill by means of a rotation transmission mechanism for reciprocally moving the electric drill on the frame of the apparatus. The transmission shaft is selectively connected directly to the rotary member and connected operatively thereto through a coupling which is rotated reversely to the rotary member through a reduction mechanism and is designed to be disengaged from the transmission shaft when the shaft is directly connected to the rotary member and to be engaged with the shaft when the shaft is not directly connected to the roatary member. The apparatus has a selecting member which directly connects the shaft to the rotary member and disengages the coupling from the sahft.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1987Date of Patent: December 6, 1988Assignee: Nitto Kohki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Michihiro Shoji, Toshio Mikiya

Patent number: 4757598Abstract: A transmission is disclosed for rotating the work supporting chuck assembly of a power driven threading machine at low and high speeds. The transmission includes a sun gear, a ring gear coaxial with the sun gear and axially shiftable between first and second positions relative to the sun gear and to a fixed clutch component, and a plurality of planet gears between the sun gear and ring gear. The sun gear is motor driven to provide the transmission input, and the planet gears are connected to and drive an output sprocket wheel drivingly connected to the chuck assembly. The first position of the ring gear provides clutched interengagement thereof with the sun gear for rotation therewith, whereby the planet gears rotate therewith to rotate the output sprocket wheel at a first speed equal to the speed of rotation of the sun gear.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1987Date of Patent: July 19, 1988Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventor: James C. Patent number: 4710071Abstract: A two-speed gear box for handheld electric drills and the like has the movable parts associated with gear changing on or associated with a lay shaft. Gear changing is preferably effected by moving a pair of dogs, slidably mounted in holes through a lay shaft gear, to drivingly engage in either of two dog clutch members on the lay shaft. A thin flexible arm, preferably including a ring around the lay shaft, mounted in cantilever fashion from a movable base effects movement of the dogs. Should the dogs not be in proper register with a respective dog clutch member when changing speed, then the arm flexes and urges the dogs into driving engagement when proper register occurs. A family of two-speed drills having different specialized functions, e.g. a drill, a hammer drill, a screwdriver/drill, a screwdriver, etc., can be produced with the maximum parts in common enabling greater manufacturing flexibility and lower cost of manufacturing the family.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1986Date of Patent: December 1, 1987Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Heinrich P. Patent number: 4701082Abstract: In a multipurpose machining unit with pneumatic spindle feed, driving is performed, starting from a motor unit (12), directly or via a flexible shaft (9). An interchangeable gear set (4) makes it possible to select the number of revolutions of the tool in accordance with its purpose. In this connection, for simultaneous use, an arbitrary number of gears (5, 6) is provided. The gears (5, 6) of the gear set (4) can be plugged together in coaxial series. The driven side of the motor unit (11) can be plugged together with the machining unit directly or by way of at least one gear (5, 6) or by way of a connecting coupling (8) for a flexible shaft (9) into a rotational connection. With the use of such a machining unit, individual spindles can likewise be operated economically.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1985Date of Patent: October 20, 1987Assignee: Suhner Intertrade AGInventor: Jurg Fumey

Patent number: 4641551Abstract: The present invention provides apparatus which can be incorporated into a powered instrument that rotates a tool at varying rotational speeds and torques. The invention includes at least two drive plates, each of which rotates at a different speed and which exerts a different magnitude of torque. A movable member within the instrument selectively engages one of the two drive plates to couple that drive plate to the output shaft of the instrument. The apparatus can include a torque limiter which couples the input shaft to the output shaft only when the resistance to rotation offered by a drive plate is less than a predetermined value.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1983Date of Patent: February 10, 1987Assignee: Hall Surgical, division of Zimmer, Inc.Inventor: John H.
