Rack And Pinion Patents (Class 408/135)
  • Patent number: 10960521
Abstract: A drill, drill bit and staples for use in attaching staples to a support by driving two parallel screws in the same direction simultaneously, one held by each side of the staple, so as to secure wiring to the support using the staple. The drill bit includes a central gear and two planetary gears, which gears rotate a screw-driving tool. The drill bit is held by the chuck of a drill and, when its central gear is rotated, rotates the planetary gears that drive the two screws. A harness may used to attach the housing of the drill bit to the drill to prevent rotation of the housing when the central and planetary gears are rotating. The drill may be rotatable from horizontal to vertical, telescoping and permit the bit to be rotated 90 degrees.

A structure (16) is for pivotally mounting lower ends of the elongated columns (14) parallel to opposite sides of the base (12), so that the elongated columns (14) can go from upright positions to angled positions. A cross slide (18) rides upon the elongated columns (14). A bearing spindle assembly (20) is rotatively carried centrally within the cross slide (18). A guide chuck (22) is connected to the bearing spindle assembly (20) above the base (12). An adjustable cradle (24) is affixed to the cross slide (18) to hold an electric drill (26) in a stationary position, so that the drill chuck (28) can engage with the bearing spindle assembly (20) above the cross slide (18). A facility (30) is between the cross slide (18) and the elongated columns (14), for moving the cross slide (18) up and down on the elongated columns (14).

  • Patent number: 5769575
Abstract: A drill press has a drive motor with output shaft that drives a chuck through a rotatable and vertically displaceable quill and a first drive coupling which includes a pair of pulleys, such as cone pulleys, and a belt extended between the cone pulleys. A rotary power take-off in the form of an additional pair of pulleys and a drive belt extracts rotary power from the drive coupling between the motor and the chuck and transfers it to an oscillatory motion device. The device includes a worm and worm gear and an eccentrically mounted arm which convert rotary motion from the rotary power take-off into a reciprocating linear motion. A lever is pivotally mounted to the device with one end engaged with the quill and a remaining, opposing end coupled with the arm. Reciprocation of the arm causes reciprocation of the lever which causes reciprocation of the quill, chuck and any tool held in the chuck. The arm is releasably engaged with and is coupled with the lever through a detent block.

  • Patent number: 5328303
Abstract: An improved automatic spindle moving device for a tapping/drilling machine is disclosed. A worm is formed on a spindle in an elongate form in the lengthwise direction thereof, and a pair of worm wheels are meshed with the worm, while the worm wheels are supported by horizontal shafts. A braking means is installed on the leading end of the horizontal shaft, so that the worm wheels can be braked, thereby reducing the revolution speed of the spindle. The power corresponding to the revolution speed reduction is converted to elevating or lowering the spindle, so that the spindle should move up and down. Thus repeated automatic continuous tapping is rendered possible, and the up and down movements of the spindle can be arbitrarily adjusted. Further, during a drilling operation, holes can be drilled to a uniform depth repeatedly, while a pedal can be utilized in tapping or drilling. Thus tapping internal threads and drilling holes are rendered more convenient and easier.

An electromotor provides a feed drive for driving the holder in the feed direction. The drilling machine tool and/or the holder are displaceable relative to the feed drive in an opposite direction to the feed direction by overcoming a counterforce. A switching element monitors the relative displacement and enables a signal to be derived for stopping the feed drive if a predetermined value of counterforce is exceeded. Motor current is limited to a predetermined maximum value during operation of the device.
