Abstract: A forage harvester represents agricultural implements that include at least one rotating component which is driven through a drive train including a main clutch operable between engaged and disengaged conditions so as to selectively couple and disconnect an output of the implement power source with the rotatable component. A rotation alarm circuit is provided for causing a warning device or devices to be energized in the event that the operator leaves a seat, in which he sits for normal operation, for a predetermined minimum time period while the rotatable component is still rotating, as determined by a rotation sensor. The warning device will remain energized until the rotatable component spins down to a zero speed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a boring tool that includes a boring bar having a center axis which at a top portion of the bar is arranged to be connected to a machine tool, and which at a bottom portion of the bar along the center axis is slit into two legs. The two legs can be movable towards or away from each other, such as by means of an adjusting screw, for exact adjustment of the position of the cutting tool with relation to the center axis. The tool is arranged in such a way that a joint through bar is detachably attached to the bottom of each of the legs of the boring bar. This joint through bar extends essentially perpendicular to the slit and center axis, and enables a cutting tool to be provided at the end of the bar. Hereby an especially simple tool is obtained which can be adjusted extremely precisely for fine machining of holes.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a laser positioning system for an aperture-processing machine and is an accessory of an aperture-processing machine. The present invention is a type of laser positioning system for an aperture-processing machine that includes two laser transmission devices each of which emits a beam of light. The two light beams form an angular set up. A common line of intersection is formed at the point of intersection in space. After the two laser transmission devices have been fixed relative to the aperture-processing machine, the common line of intersection formed at the point of intersection of the two light beams mentioned above and the axial line of the main bearing cutter of the aperture-processing machine coincide exactly, thus forming the reference for positioning. In the application of the present invention, adjustment is easy, positioning is rapid and observation is direct with high accuracy and low cost.

When a machining operation on a workpiece is finished, the tools are retracted from the workpiece. Prior to moving the workpiece to another machining operation, a stuck tool detector is moved along a plane of separation between the machine head and the workpiece. If a stuck tool is present, the detector senses the stuck tool and sends an alarm signal of the stuck tool condition so that the operator or controlling microprocessor based system is alerted to the stuck tool. • Patent number: 6095728
Abstract: Translation means is provided for translating positional movement of the cutting tool [56] of a cutting machine [10] to a digital readout assembly [60] provided for monitoring the relative positions of the workpiece support means [14] and the cutting tool support [55] in a direction parallel to the positional movement. The translation means comprises a reader mounting [31] for mounting the position reader [15] of a digital readout assembly supported by a carrier assembly [16] which carries the reader [15] whereby it may move with the carrier assembly [16] or relative thereto in a direction parallel to the positional movement. Drive means such as a precision push-pull cable drive [20] is provided for translating the positional movement of the cutting tool [56] to movement of the reader mounting [31] relative to the carrier assembly [16].

  • Patent number: 6033161
Abstract: The invention is a revolving pilot tool. The inventor's revolving pilot has a cylindrical shank which is attached to the tool usually in the center of the bottom of the tool. This shank has a threaded opening in its center. Over the shank is placed a cylindrical bearing. Over this bearing is placed another cylindrical piece that forms the outer surface of the pilot. To hold the bearing and the cylindrical piece upon the shank a screw and o-ring is usually used. This pilot is usually attached to the bottom of the tool to align the tool to an already drilled opening. However, it could be attached above a drill to align the tool to an opening being drilled. The pilot can also align the tool during line boring.

  • Patent number: 5995230
Abstract: A laser light barrier system for measuring or checking tools or workpieces on machine tools has a support which can be fastened to the machine frame. The support has an elongate base housing and two block housings, which at a mutual longitudinal distance project transversely from the elongate base housing and one of which contains a transmitter and one a receiver. The laser beam extends at a distance from and approximately parallel to the elongate base housing. An elongate stop element which is held in position by means of a latching arrangement, extends, in the space between the laser beam and the base housing, in the longitudinal direction from one block housing to the other block housing, and wherein the elongate stop element snaps off in the event of a collision with a moving tool or workpiece and, as a result, actuates an electric switch which, by acting on the emergency stop device of the machine stops the latter.

  • Patent number: 5988242
Abstract: A router and other cutting tools with a fixed center such as drills, shapers, milling machines, etc., used for cutting wood, metal or other materials, is provided with a fence mechanism for either a table or the base of a portable tool, for rapid and easy settings of the fence with respect to the center of the cutting tool. This is accomplished by a pivot mounting of the fence on a table or on a portable tool base, with respect to a block pivoted to the table or tool base, wherein the center of the pivot for the block and the center for the pivot for the fence are on opposite sides of the cutting tool and located on a line which passes through the tool center and the respective pivot locations. The desired spacing of the fence to the tool can be achieved using accurate spacers between the fence and the block, even with the tool being mounted in place.

  • Patent number: 5862727
Abstract: A laser arbor is provided that will display a cutting line on a work piece to be cut by a rotary saw. The laser is operated by a centrifugal switch mounted within the laser arbor along with a laser diode or the like and a battery. Because of the rotation of the laser with the blade and the persistence of the human eye, the moving light spot from the laser appears as a single line, hence it is not necessary as in the prior art to produce light divergence in the plane parallel to the blade plane. For that purpose, it is preferable to employ a light source having a wavelength that lies in a region to which the eye is sensitive, which in practice will typically mean a wavelength in the upper region of the red. Placement of the laser inwardly from the cutting surface of the blade eliminates the danger of any damage occurring to the laser as a result of debris from the cutting process.

  • Patent number: 5850184
Abstract: A tool detection system combines a sensor nozzle with an ultrasonic transducer capable of propagating and detecting ultrasonic waves. A wave is propagated in a coolant fluid stream directed at a tool to be monitored. A control unit powers the ultrasonic transducer and contains circuits for analyzing the ultrasonic waves detected by the ultrasonic transducer. The control compares the actual time between the propagation of an ultrasonic wave and detection of an echo wave reflected from the tool, to an expected time. An alarm is generated when the tool is not present as indicated by the actual time exceeding the expected time. An alarm signal generated by the alarm generator either stops the tool or signals an operator that the tool is absent.

  • Patent number: 5795113
Abstract: An optical unit for projecting an image including first and second locating lines for substantially eliminating the introduction of visual parallax error. In one preferred form, the optical unit is incorporated into a machine for performing a forming operation on a workpiece and is operative to project an image of a portion of a scale to a position easily read by the user during machine operation. The optical unit includes a prism portion having a first side disposed adjacent the scale, a second side at an angle to the first side for reflecting the image and a third side through which the projected image may be viewed. The first locating line is disposed on the first side and the second locating line is disposed on the third side such that visual alignment eliminates the introduction of visual parallax error associated with reading a scale.
