Patent number: 11154941Abstract: A pen milling device and a method for milling pen blanks therewith. The device has a body selectively engageable with a rotating apparatus. A replaceable cutter is engaged with the body such that a cutting edge thereof extends outwardly beyond the body's end surface. The cutter has multiple cutting edges and may be reoriented relative to the body if a presented cutting edge becomes dull or damaged. A reamer extending outwardly from the body includes at least one flute. As the device is rotated, the cutter removes material from a pen blank and the reamer removes dried adhesive from a bore of a pen tube secured within a hole defined in the pen blank The device removes all of the pen material extending between an end of the pen blank and an associated end of the pen tube.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2019Date of Patent: October 26, 2021Assignee: Woodpeckers, LLCInventors: Jeffery E. Patent number: 4930948Abstract: A valve seat refitting apparatus. A cylindrical main body portion has a longitudinal bore which receives a centering guide. Longitudinal slots around the outer periphery of the main body portion receive cutting blades rigidly attached to cutting blade support. Radial and longitudinal positioning screws serve to position the supports and cutting blades to refit a variety of valve seats. Set screws lock the blade supports in the desired position. A bushing removably attached to the centering guide also allows the centering guide to be adapted to fit different size valve seats.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1989Date of Patent: June 5, 1990Inventor: William H. Patent number: 4626143Abstract: A rotating cutting tool has a clamping system that positively locks generally square or rectangular carbide cutters into position on the cutter head and extending outwardly from the head for spot facing or boring as the head is rotated. The head has backing supports that are raised above the head end surface for backing and securely holding the carbide inserts to prevent breakage or damage. The clamping system is very rapidly used, and particularly in the case of a spot facer, by having a proper diameter pilot pin member in the center, the carbide cutter inserts can be quickly adjusted for the desired cutting diameter. The unit has no flutes as normally required for high speed or sweated carbide spot facers.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1984Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Assignee: Sunnen Products CompanyInventor: David C. Patent number: 4626145Abstract: A tool for precisely sizing wax ring pre-forms used by jewelers and goldsmiths in the manufacture of hand carved jewelry which is readily adjustable to the desired ring size and which is then hand operated to scrape the wax preform to the desired diametral dimension and required depth to obtain a wax ring pattern for the ring to be fashioned. The wax ring pattern having the correct ring size is then separated from the wax ring pre-form stock for further crafting by the goldsmith to shape the exterior of the ring to its desired configuration.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1985Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Inventor: Eduardo C. Vasquez

Patent number: 4295763Abstract: A cutter for use in making plugs of wood or the like to be used in the insulation industry for plugging holes made in order to provide insulation in an existing structure. The cutter is adapted to be held in a chuck or the like for rotation about a central axis defined by a holder, with a pilot being spring biased in the holder and having a centering tit for locating the wooden plug as it is being cut. Four steel cutters are provided in circumaxially spaced relationship around the axis, and two of these are oriented at a slightly different angle than the other two such that the plug can be cut with two distinct tapers, such that the steeper plug taper permits the plug to be first located in the hole to be plugged, and a shallower slightly larger diameter tapered portion for securing the plug in the hole. Each cutter is adjustable in the holder, and is held in place by a screw with any number of shims being provided in order to cut plugs of different size.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1979Date of Patent: October 20, 1981Inventor: James J. Cunniff

Patent number: 4218163Abstract: A cutting tool includes a shank with one end adapted to be secured to a rotary chuck. Spaced inwardly from an opposite end is a transversely extending radially offset aperture extending through the shank for receiving a cutting tool. A threaded aperture extends into the shank axially from the opposite end for receiving a set screw for securing the cutting tool within the offset aperture. A cup-shaped pilot bushing is provided and fits over the opposite end of the shank and includes means interengaging the cutting tool and an aperture aligned with the threaded aperture of the shank so that the bushing can be interlockably secured to the shank. In some embodiments, the leading edges of the shank and the pilot bushings are chamfered and knurled to define a ream for use of the cutting tool with out-of-round and/or undersized pilot holes. A cutting tool so formed can be employed as a universal drill for enlarging pilot holes within an infinitely adjustable range of sizes.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1978Date of Patent: August 19, 1980Inventor: William O. Druschel

Patent number: 4178115Abstract: A tool for cutting or reaming a counterbore in a workpiece is guided by a pilot member secured in a bore. The tool includes a rotatable blade holder having a plurality of attached cutter blades. One of the cutter blades has a lateral cutting edge at a pre-selected radial distance from the rotational axis of the blade holder. The remaining cutter blades do not include lateral cutting edges. Consequently, the lateral or diametral dimension of the counterbore is defined by a single blade. This arrangement substantially prevents oversizing of the counterbore.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1978Date of Patent: December 11, 1979Assignee: Lisle CorporationInventor: James L. Pool

Patent number: 4130371Abstract: The rotary cutter tool assembly, including cutting insert, of the present invention is adapted to perform a finishing operation within a tube in such manner that tube wall thickness is ensured. To this end, the novel insert is provided with a guiding surface adjacent to the cutting edge of the insert, which guiding surface is displaced towards the central portion of the insert at a distance corresponding to the desired depth of cut. The insert is secured to the rotatable cutter head in such relation that said guiding surface precedes the cutting edge in the direction of rotation of the cutter head.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1977Date of Patent: December 19, 1978Assignee: Sandvik AktiebolagInventor: Rudolf Druxeis

Patent number: 4043699Abstract: A counterbore tool having a removable cutting tool in which the cutting tool is disposed in an open slot of the shank, the slot extending inwardly from the outer extremity of the shank and in which the pilot member is secured in telescoping engagement with the end of the shank, the pilot member being detachably held by fastening means which clamps the pilot member against the cutting tool and holds it firmly in place. The cutting tool has a transverse depth equal to the width of the slot so as to fit snugly within the slot. The cutting tool and shank are provided with interfitting male and female members which prevent movement of the cutting tool transverse to the axis of the shank. The pilot member snugly telescopes over the shank and is provided with a slot extending over the outer side edge of the cutting tool.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1976Date of Patent: August 23, 1977Assignee: Design Mold Inc.Inventor: John M.
