Publication number: 20110150587Abstract: In the pocket hole apparatus of the present invention, a table reciprocates linearly relative to a base. An anvil is fixed relative to the base and holds the workpiece on a sloped top surface at the desired angle for the pocket hole. A drill spindle with a drill bit is fixed relative to the table. After the workpiece is mounted to the anvil, the table is moved to drill the pocket hole. Optionally, a second spindle on the opposite side of the anvil predrills the pocket hole when the table is first moved to a predrill position. The spindle is enabled or disabled by latching mechanism. The spindle is mounted to a rail that is slidably mounted to the table so that the rail can slide perpendicularly thereby adjusting the spacing between pocket holes.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2009Publication date: June 23, 2011Inventor: Alfred Stukuls

Patent number: 6287245Abstract: A deep drilling device suitable for drilling in workpieces, particularly crankshafts, holes at different positions and/or in different orientations relative to a work longitudinal axis, has a deep drilling unit and a work holding unit cooperating therewith. The deep drilling unit permits parallel displacements of the deep drilling tools in a horizontal X direction and a vertical Y direction, as well as a tool feed parallel to the spindle axis. The tool holding device receives one or more crankshafts in such a way that their longitudinal axis is horizontally oriented and permits a rotation about the longitudinal axis and a swivelling of the workpieces about a vertical rotary axis. As a result both different tilt angles of the holes relative to the work longitudinal axis and also different positions of the holes relative to the circumference of the workpieces can be obtained.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1999Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: TBT Tiefbohrtechnik GmbHInventor: Hermann Randecker

Patent number: 5920973Abstract: A high throughput drilling system for printed circuit board hole formation. Two spindles are disposed at each spindle station, doubling the number of holes produced in a given time period. Each spindle in connected to an overhead linear drive by a mini slide. A first set of the spindles, one for each spindle station, is driven by a first X axis linear drive. A second set is driven by a second X axis linear drive. The work piece table is elongated to support work pieces for all stations, and is supported by a set of bearing guides, with outrigger bearings coupled to the table by flexure mounts that relieve stress due to differential temperature expansion rates between the work piece table and the base table. High speed spindles are employed to obtain higher productivity, with larger holes routed by router tools, eliminating the need for stocking large drill sizes on the system tool changer.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1997Date of Patent: July 13, 1999Assignee: Electro Scientific Industries, Inc.Inventor: Wojciech B. Patent number: 4559681Abstract: A method of, and apparatus for automatically machining work pieces, wherein a plurality of single spindle units are fixedly attached to a support, and the work pieces are maneuvered in front of the work units by a translatable table. The number of single spindle work units is determined by the formula 2N-1, wherein N is the number of machining operations to be performed on each work piece. As such, there is an odd number of work units thereby creating a central unit which carrys out the last machining operation to be performed in the work piece. The axes of the work units are precisely equally spaced from one another, and this spacing equals the spacing between the work pieces. The apparatus is cyclically operated so that a plurality of work pieces can be worked on simultaneously by individual work units and a new work piece can be loaded when the machining operation is completed on a previously loaded work piece.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1983Date of Patent: December 24, 1985Assignee: Manufacture de VilebrequinsInventors: Michel Coquillart, Georges Yeretzian
