Abstract: A system designed to drill multiple rows of holes utilizing a simplified belt drive. The basic embodiment of the apparatus comprises of a platform on which several drilling heads are affixed independently on twin axes. The multiple rows of drill bits are arranged in such a way as to allow the top segment of each bit to revolve as well as articulate in a direction at a tangent to the circular drilling motion facilitating the drill into the substrate. The bits are each independent and derive the motion necessary for rotation and reciprocating motion through the interaction of a special belt designed to impart rotary and linear motion. In its most basic embodiment the drill platform is controlled and powered by a single belt drive. The system is able to create twin rows of holes using a simple rotating power source to drive the belt that creates both rotary and linear motion to each of the drill heads.

  • Patent number: 5344259
Abstract: A method and device for drilling holes into a mantle of a cylinder used in a paper machine are disclosed. The drilling device includes a base frame and a spindle box displaceable on support of the base frame towards a cylinder mantle to be machined. The spindle box includes a number of drill bits and a drive motor arranged to move the spindle box to produce a feed movement for the drill bits. In the spindle box, a second motor is arranged to rotate the drill bits simultaneously. The rotating drive of the drill bits is obtained by means of the second motor which rotates a drive belt arranged to pass via drive pulleys of the drill bits so that the drive pulleys and drill bits are rotated. Each drill bit comprises a horizontally displaceable slide frame. Coupling devices are arranged between each displaceable slide frame and the spindle box, by means of which each slide frame can be locked in the desired horizontal position so as to adjust the positions of the drill bits.

  • Patent number: 5122134
Abstract: The cutting head for a surgical reamer has a leading end for insertion into a bone canal and a trailing end for attachment to a drive shaft. The cutting head has a cutting surface formed about an axis of rotation of the cutting head. The cutting surface is formed by the rotation of the cutting edges on a plurality of flutes spaced around the axis of rotation. Each cutting edge has a first portion spaced a predetermined radial distance from the axis of rotation at the tip portion and terminates at a terminating point which is at a greater radial distance from the axis of rotation than the starting point. The cutting edge on each flute has a second portion having a starting point at the trailing end of the cutting head which is at a second predetermined radial distance from the axis of rotation. The second portion extends axially towards the tip portion and terminates at a point at a greater radial distance from the axis of rotation than the starting point thereof.

  • Patent number: 5085543
Abstract: This hand tool is a portable tool, to be used on a construction site to drill pilot holes for the standard 41/2" hinge used on doors in the majority of commercial buildings. It's light-weight, small and powered by any 3/8" drill motor. Base of tool is used to align the drills in place on the routed out section of door or jamb. The 4 hole configuration the tool has is a standard location used by the main door hinge manufacturers. The main advantage of the tool is the accuracy of the holes drilled. The labor time is cut by 75% over the old conventional way of drilling the holes in the hard wood one at a time for the accommodation of the screws that hold the hinge in place.

  • Patent number: 4913599
Abstract: A drill (10) for flexographic plates and negatives includes a table (15) movable in a Y direction under a drill bar (30), and a pin bar (25) movable in an X direction on the table so that negatives can be supported on the table, moved to an appropriate positon underneath the drill bar, and held in place by clamping the table and the pin bar. Drill bar (30) moves up and down and rotates a linear array of hollow spindles (35) holding hollow drill bits (40) for boring a suitable array of holes. The same array bored in the negatives is then bored in a flexographic plate corresponding to each negative, and these are pinned together while the plates are imaged. Drill (10) includes slug rods (32) extending downward through spindles (35) and bits (40) to push out drilled slugs when the drill bar raises. The spindles are preferably rotated by a drive chain (55).
