  • Patent number: 11020831
Abstract: A dental milling machine is provided with a tool which is guided in a chuck. A workpiece arm is mounted opposite the tool to be able to be moved at least in the direction of the spindle axis. With a control device it can be moved in relation to the workpiece, especially by means of a drive motor at the workpiece arm. The workpiece arm has an abutment element, whereby the control device moves the tool and the abutment element towards each other until they abut each other. The control device can be used to detect abutment of the abutment element with respect to the tool, in particular with respect to its tip, in particular by decelerating the (relative) movement of the tool and the abutment element towards each another, upon contact of the tool and the abutment element. This position may be signaled as a reference position and, especially may be stored.

  • Patent number: 6869257
Abstract: A method for deburring and tool for use therein wherein workpiece-engaging portions of a cutter of the tool prevent the cutting of chamfers to hole edges of boreholes. The tool removes burrs from a drilling operation performed on a steering yoke. The yoke includes two boreholes on parallel legs that are drilled in line with one another. The boreholes must be burr-free with little or no chamfer. The cutter is spring-urged or loaded to pivot on a cylindrical shaft to expose cutting edges of the cutter after a predetermined amount of angular movement from a substantially vertical position. The workpiece-engaging portions prevent the cutter from digging in and cutting the chamfers. The cutter rotates into retracted positions within the shaft to allow the cutter to pass through the drilled boreholes so that the cutting edges of the cutter can deburr surfaces of the yoke at both sides of each of the legs.

  • Patent number: 4395167
Abstract: A router is made from a carbide shaft or rod which has two sets of flutes, which preferably turn in the same direction and overlap each other in each and every circumference of the fluted part of the shaft. One set of flutes has a slow spiral and sharp cutting edges. The other set of flutes has a fast spiral and a clean out groove with a large cross section. The rod turns, for cutting, in a direction which drives chips, dust, and other debris downwardly where they are drawn off by a vacuum cleaner. The air draft of the vacuum cleaner passes through the flutes and cools the cutting edges.

  • Patent number: 4325662
Abstract: A machine for cutting a tubular key from a tubular key blank. The tubular key blank is mounted on a stanchion and is rotatable in respect thereto. Also, the tubular key blank is movable a limited lineal distance in respect to the stanchion. A key ejector assembly is connected with the key blank supporting mechanism to manually eject the key after the key has been cut. A cutter is mounted on a mounting assembly which is lineally movable in two directions (perpendicular to each other) in respect to the base. Measurement means in the form of a plurality of dial indicators are mounted between the base and the mounting assembly to accurately ascertain the extent of movement of the mounting assembly in respect to the tubular key blank. A decoder mechanism is mounted on the base which is to be used to measure the length of grooves already cut within a tubular key permitting that key to be duplicated within the tubular key blank mounted within the key supporting structure.

Abstract: Apparatus for recapping tires, particularly of the type used on off-the-road vehicles. Rubber strips are applied to the prepared tread surface of the tire to "smooth" the tire, after which the tire is disposed on a roller assembly to cut i.e., "groove" a tread design in the tire. The roller assembly is hydraulically displaced to dispose the tire in a pit and is rotated for indexing the tire to groove the circumference thereof. A grooving blade is heated to a controlled temperature and is hydraulically pulled across the tread surface to cut the tread grooves.

  • Patent number: 4123189
Abstract: A system for notching tubes to facilitate their joinder to other tubes or rods, in which a first portion of the notch is formed by a rotary cutting action extending progressively inwardly into the tube side wall and then outwardly in an arcuate path, and the second portion of the notch is formed by a plunging, shearing action which simultaneously punches the entire second portion of the notch out of the wall of the tube. The apparatus for forming each of the notches preferably includes a pair of die halves which together define a tube receiving passage intersected by a tool receiving passage, and a cutting tool positioned in the tool receiving passage. The tool is provided with a substantially axially extending rotary cutting edge for forming the first portion of the notch and a shearing edge for punching out the second portion of the notch when the tool is plunged through the wall of a tube positioned in the intersection of the tube and tool receiving passages.

  • Patent number: 4072083
Abstract: A milling head having a shaft for attachment to a machine tool, and at least one cutting insert or bit, characterized in that the cutting insert is supported in a tiltable or swivelable holder having a swivel axis extending perpendicularly to the axis of rotation of the milling head. Stopping means is situated between the milling head and the holder, against which the holder rests in its working position. A cam plate is held in a stationary position such that the cam plate cooperates with the holder to tilt or swivel the latter along a portion of its arcuate movement thereby lifting the cutting insert off the surface to be machined. The stopping means may include travel limit elements that comprise a bore in the holder and a protruding pin which engages with the bore. Biasing means is provided in the form of a spring arranged so that it tends to bias the holder into its working position.

  • Patent number: 3961404
Abstract: A method of forming a groove in an essentially planar face of a metal object, the groove being uniformly curved on an arc of radius "r", and being of a width "w" and a constant depth "d". Such grooves must be formed, for example, to receive the end face seals of the piston of a rotary engine of the trochoidal type. The groove is cut with a broach which is uniformly curved on an arc of said radius "r", by producing relative motion of the broach and the object about an axis which is the center of a circle of said radius "r", in such manner that the teeth of the broach cut the groove.
