Abstract: The method and two devices of the present invention provide for underground connection of pipe with minimal disruption of the surrounding landscape. The main pipe is cleaned by a surface preparation tool of the present invention designed to access the pipe through a small hole. An adaptor is attached to the second pipe, and then placed in a clamping device of the present invention, designed to access the main pipe and clamp the adaptor thereto through a small hole. Electricity is passed through the adaptor, thereby softening the plastic so that this softening and the pressure of the clamp secures the adaptor to the main pipe. The main pipe is then pierced by the adaptor's tapping tee.

Abstract: An apparatus for precision linear positioning of material along a frame, having carrier means for carrying the material juxtaposed above the frame, means for linearly moving the carrier means along the frame having a plurality of pneumatic cylinders each having an extendable and rectractable piston, the cylinders connected to each other in a series and including a first end pneumatic cylinder attached to the frame and a last end pneumatic cylinder attached to the carrier means, such that the carrier means is moved by the amount of the cumulative extension and retraction of the pistons, stopping means associated with each the pneumatic cylinder for limiting the extension of each the piston, and means for providing a controllable amount of air to each pneumatic cylinder to selectively control extension and retraction of each piston.
Abstract: An automated control system and method for control of hydraulically positionable machine tools is disclosed. A servo motor is coupled to a servo valve spool such that the angular displacement of the motor shaft directly corresponds to the resultant rotation of the spool, which in turn threadably engages a precision lead screw fixed to a tool slide. In the preferred embodiment, a position encoder provides signals indicative of the angular displacement of the motor shaft. The position encoder signals are fed back to an electronic central processor which controls motor operation. The controller is programmed with the lead screw pitch information, and a series of instructions to advance or reverse the spool along the lead screw in a series of movements precisely corresponding to the desired movements of the slide.

Abstract: A nut tapper comprises a pusher for pushing blanks onto a rotating tap. The pusher is urged towards the tap by a pneumatic piston and cylinder unit and the speed of approach of the pusher towards the tap is limited by a cam and follower mechanism. The pressure in the piston and cylinder unit can be adjusted to vary the force exerted on a blank by the pusher. The piston and cylinder unit and the cam and follower mechanism are disposed together below the pusher and tap.
Abstract: In an automatic screw thread cutting machine having a clamping carriage for clamping an elongated workpiece, one end portion of which is to be provided with a screw thread, and a spindle coaxially arranged with a workpiece held by said clamping carriage and carrying at one end thereof facing the end portion of the workpiece a screw cutting tool and being driven over a stepdown gearing from a motor, an advancing mechanism for advancing the clamping carriage towards said spindle and including a rod connected to the carriage and having a pair of opposite smooth parallel friction surfaces and a friction wheel driven by the spindle and pressed against one of the friction surfaces while the other friction surface is engaged by a counter roll. The friction wheel is exchangeble against a friction wheel of different diameter to thereby change the speed of advancement of the carriage.
Abstract: An automatic thread cutting machine for nuts and similar mass-produced parts where the nuts or the like are taken from a magazine and moved through a feed trough into a guide where they are held secured against rotation and are then pushed by means of a pusher over a rotating thread cutter from where they are subsequently removed while the pusher is returned to its starting position. The machine is provided with an actuating cylinder which is capable of being charged with a pressure medium and which has a piston rod that is provided at its free end with a plunger serving as the pusher. A clock pulse controlled switch valve arrangement is disposed in the pressure medium line leading to the actuating cylinder, and the machine is electrically protected by a safety device which is influenced by the position of the piston rod, the safety device being rendered operative in dependence on the position of the piston rod.
