Adapted To Engage Work At Tool-axis Patents (Class 408/74)
  • Patent number: 7118313
Abstract: A cutting die head that can be set and/or reset without an external mechanism. To this end, the die head includes a die body including a plurality of radially adjustable blocks, each block having a cutter mounted thereon and a radially outwardly facing cam surface. A sleeve surrounds the die body and has an inner surface. The inner surface has a plurality of cam surfaces arranged to communicate with the cam surfaces of the blocks such that axial movement of the sleeve results in radial movement of the blocks. In one embodiment the sleeve is caused to move axially by fluid pressure.

  • Patent number: 4613260
Abstract: An annular thread cutting die head for a power driven threading machine is comprised of an annular support plate supporting a plurality of radially displacable thread cutting dies spaced apart about the axis of the die head, and an annular cam plate assembly coaxial with and pivotal relative to the support plate to radially displace the cutting dies. The cam plate assembly is spring biased to pivot relative to the support plate in the direction to radially retract the cutting dies, and is selectively operable relative to the support plate to achieve the cutting of a straight thread or to achieve the cutting of a tapered thread. In connection with the cutting of a tapered thread, receding replacement of the cutting tools is controlled by a unique cam arrangement on the machine carriage engaged by the cam plate assembly under the spring bias and independent of torque imposed on the die head during the threading operation.

  • Patent number: 4581783
Abstract: A base for supporting a rotatable spindle shaft and chuck assembly of a motor driven threading machine for rotation about a spindle axis is comprised of axially spaced apart upright support members transverse to the spindle axis and rigidly interconnected by means of a torque tube having opposite ends welded thereto. The spindle shaft, which carries chuck units on opposite ends thereof, extends through the torque tube and is rotatably supported by bearings adjacent the upright support members. A pair of support rails extend through openings therefor in the support members and have ends extending radially outwardly from one of the support members to provide a cantilever support arrangement for the tooling carriage of the threading machine. Additionally, the support members, portions of the support rails therebetween, and the torque tube facilitate the mounting of drive motor and gear box units for the machine.

  • Patent number: 4132495
Abstract: A die head has replaceable radially slidable threading dies moved by a bushing with cams. As the workpiece is threaded to the desired length, its end contacts cam surfaces which move a sensor bolt and a control pin to disengage the bushing from a locked position. The bushing can then move axially to radially retract the threading dies from the workpiece.
