  • Patent number: 10107255
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a gearbox repair apparatus for repairing a bore hole of a gearbox torque arm. In certain embodiments, the apparatus includes a mounting structure configured to mount to the torque arm. The mounting structure includes a through hole that aligns with the bore hole of the torque arm when mounted thereto. As such, when mounted to the torque arm, the mounting structure is configured to locate a boring bar at a center of the bore hole such that the boring bar is perpendicular to a face of the torque arm. Further, the mounting structure is configured to receive the boring bar through the aligned through hole and bore hole such that, when inserted therethrough, the boring bar is configured to machine and thus repair the bore hole.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing a fitting from a pipe having a central axis. The apparatus includes a guide member which defines a guide passage and a means for supporting the guide member within at least a portion of the pipe with the longitudinal axis of the guide passage in a coaxial relationship with the central axis of the pipe. The apparatus also includes a rotary hole saw having a cylindrical wall provided with a plurality of cutting teeth on an open end thereof and a central axis of rotation. The cylindrical wall defines a cylindrical chamber. A guide rod is connected to the rotary hole saw such that the guide rod extends through the cylindrical chamber of the hole saw and beyond the open end thereof in coaxial alignment with the central axis of rotation. The guide rod is slidingly receivable in the guide passage of the guide member.

  • Patent number: 6192567
Abstract: A process for repairing a defective opening in an automotive transmission housing includes the steps of (a) providing a drilling jig sized to fit closely within the servo bore chamber, the drilling jig having an alignment aperture concentric with the opening when fitted within the chamber, (b) inserting into the opening a bushing which closely fits within the opening, the bushing having a central reamer guide bore with a diameter larger than the original bore diameter, (c) inserting and rotating a reamer in the reamer guide bore thereby enlarging the diameter of the opening, (d) providing and inserting a repair bushing into the enlarged opening, the repair bushing having a central opening with a diameter equal to the original diameter and having an external diameter equal to the diameter of the enlarged reamed opening. An adhesive may be used to fix the repar bushing in the opening.

  • Patent number: 5271145
Abstract: A rope saw cutting apparatus is partially insertable through a bore in a composite panel to scarf the panel without access to the blind side of the panel. The same apparatus can also be used to prepare a tapered repair plug to close tolerance to repair the scarfed panel. The apparatus preferably uses a rope saw blade to perform a plunge cut followed by a circumferential cut which has a desired taper or scarf angle.

  • Patent number: 5146817
Abstract: A boring tool for refinishing the bearing seat of a limited slip differential case having a side opening and having upper and lower bores which are concentric with the bearing seat. Generally frustoconical centering bushings are wedged into the upper and lower bores of the case, and the boring head is inserted into the case through the side opening. Thereafter, a boring bar is slid downwardly through the upper bushing and the boring head and is slid into the lower bushing, the boring head then being secured to the boring bar. When the boring bar is rotated, the bushings hold the boring head in concentric relation with the bearing seat.

  • Patent number: 4346508
Abstract: Pin bores of excavator forebooms are subjected to impact and side loading, causing wear which eventually leads to wobble of the foreboom. The close tolerance required in reboring such bores has previously necessitated transporting the foreboom to repair shops with large machine tools and jigging capacity for such massive structures. The present invention provides a fixture embodiment (30) adapted to rebore a workpiece (10), such as a foreboom, to within close tolerances in conjunction with an easily portable powered drill or the like. Reboring operations may be performed at any convenient site. Fixture embodiment (30) comprises a guide member (32), a structure (40) for holding the guide member (32) to the workpiece (10) in a precisely positioned relationship, a boring bar (52) and a supporting and aligning structure (70). A method for reboring the workpiece (10) is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4331410
Abstract: The tool includes a mandrel on which is seated and axially held an exchangeable milling cutter, coupled to the mandrel by a clutch drive ring for shell end mill arbors, for transmitting the torque during the milling procedure. In addition, a stop element is mounted on the mandrel, held against an axial displacement, but permitting relative rotation of the mandrel for operating the cutter, whereby particularly a thrust bearing is used between the mandrel and the stop element. The stop element is adjustable and limits the longitudinal movement of the cutter. To prevent any damage to the chamfer-area around the housing-bore hole by the cutter, the stop has to be adjusted accurate to the gauge, in reference to the cutting edge geometry of the cutter teeth, so that just a thin blade of material of the outer ring lip remains. The whole device is centered with the mandrel in the bore of the bearing or bushing which is to be removed after cutting one ring lip.
