Patent number: 5475914Abstract: An engraver having an engraving head is provided wherein replaceable components, such as tools, of the engraving head are formed with a cartridge-style construction. For example, in one aspect of the engraving head, a cartridge-type diamond stylus is provided having a trapezoidal cross-section for facilitating positive registration and positioning of the stylus within the engraving head. Other tools, such as a shoe and/or burr cutter may also be provided in a detachable cartridge arrangement to facilitate quick mounting and replacement of an existing shoe or burr cutter, respectively, such that the shoe or burr cutter also becomes aligned and registered on the engraving head.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1993Date of Patent: December 19, 1995Assignee: Ohio Electronic Engravers, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth F. Bornhorst, Jr., David R. Seitz, James E. Klinger

Patent number: 5232321Abstract: An apparatus for engraving images has an engraving table driving apparatus for making a sliding table, on which table a card on which an image is to be engraved is fixedly mounted, reciprocate from side to side; and engraving machine for performing engraving on the card by making a cutter head, disposed oppositely facing the card on the sliding table, move vertically; a base, integrally mounted with the engraving machine, which reciprocates back and forth; a belt placed in such a manner as to be movable back and forth on the top surface of the base; and a lever, rotatably mounted in a vertical direction on the base, by means of which the belt is mounted in a fastened state in the end section of the base. The operation for feeding the card to the starting point and returning them can be accomplished rapidly, and therefore the time required to engrave the card can be shortened considerably.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1991Date of Patent: August 3, 1993Inventor: Akira Suzuki

Patent number: 4340326Abstract: A broken bit detector for use in conjunction with printed circuit board drilling machines or the like. The detector includes a light emitter and a light sensor contained within a pressure foot. The light emitter projects a beam of light through a central opening in the pressure foot and toward the light detector. Normally, the beam will be broken by a drill bit which passes through the opening. If a bit is not present, the light beam will not be broken and will be detected by the photosensor. Pressurized air is forced outward from both the light emitter and light detector in order to prevent any chips created by the drilling operation from striking the emitter or detector. The use of the air creates a shield which results in an accurate detector having a long life.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1980Date of Patent: July 20, 1982Assignee: Cooper Industries, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Buonauro, Richard Warner

Patent number: 4317644Abstract: A device comprised of a work table, tracing device and cutting device positioned above the table. The work table is capable of holding a workpiece to be cut and a model which serves as a basis for cutting the workpiece to a form identical to that of the model. The tracer includes a spindle and a stylus connected to the bottom of the spindle. The stylus moves against the outer edge of the model and, as it moves, causes the spindle to incline from side to side and displace vertically. Sensors are positioned about the spindle to monitor its movement. The sensors sends signals to the cutter so that the movement of the cutter mirrors the movement of the stylus over the model.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1979Date of Patent: March 2, 1982Inventor: Toshiaki Hosoi
