Abstract: A grab picks up a hollow workpiece and displaces it to a machining station where, while the workpiece is held in the grab, a tool is engaged from outside with a first surface of the workpiece to finish the first surface. Then the workpiece is reoriented by the grab and engaged by a tool with a second surface of the workpiece to finish the second surface. Another tool is fitted through a large-diameter hole of the workpiece and positioned inside the workpiece adjacent a small-diameter hole and a drive spindle is coupled through the small-diameter hole to the other tool to machine an inner surface of the workpiece adjacent the small-diameter hole. These steps are then repeated to finish another interior surface of the workpiece adjacent another small-diameter hole. Finally the workpiece is displaced from the machining station and released from the grab.

Abstract: A milling method is provided for the manufacture of components composed of difficult-to-cut materials for turbomachines, aircraft and spacecraft by producing recesses with one or more side walls. An end milling cutter which cuts at the circumference and at the tip and has a tip contour which is rounded towards the circumference is used as the rotating milling tool. In addition to rotation about its axis, the milling tool performs an eccentric orbiting motion about an orbital axis spaced apart from its axis. The opposite senses of rotation lead to downcut milling, and the orbital axis performs a translational advance motion on a straight and/or curved path transversely to its longitudinal direction, with or without a swivelling motion.

  • Patent number: 5630265
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reconditioning wood wine barrels. An open wine barrel is placed on a barrel rotator stand and positioned into a planer-cutter apparatus. Cutting parameters are set, and a horizontal screw advances the cutter into the barrel, cutting a swath the length of the barrel stave. The cutting process is repeated through the number of passes required. The barrel is dried, placed on a toasting rotator stand, and positioned under a toaster so that the toaster elements are inside the barrel. An expansion mechanism places the toaster elements adjacent the barrel interior surface, and the barrel ends are closed. After toasting, the expansion assembly is retracted and the barrel is removed. The barrel heads are run through a planer, dried, and sanded, and placed in a head toaster. The head toaster doors swing closed placing the heads adjacent oscillating firebars.

  • Patent number: 5606786
Abstract: An apparatus and method for perforating corrugated plastic pipe from the inside of the pipe to the outside and the pipe produced by the method. The apparatus has a perforating device attached to an elongated support member. Perforations are created by advancing pipe over the perforating device or by advancing the perforating device into the interior of the pipe. Where the pipe is advanced over the perforating device, a carriage, holding the pipe, is riding on a track which guides the pipe into engagement or into cutting or perforating proximity with the perforating device. The perforating device includes a housing holding motors with cutters attached to them. The cutters cut the inner corrugations or the valleys of the pipe as the pipe is passed over the perforating device. Pipe is perforated by advancing it over a perforating device, and curing the pipe from the inner pipe surface to the outer pipe surface.

Abstract: A stand-alone deburring apparatus greatly facilitates accurate deburring of difficult-to-access burrs located inside tubes, and does so in a manner which eliminates the need to tie up another more cumbersome and costly piece of machinery, such as a drill press. The apparatus includes a base plate, a motor with a horizontal shaft mounted to the base plate and a deburring body mounted vertically, adjacent the end of the shaft. The shaft coacts with toothed gears inside the body to rotatably drive the gears and a horizontally-oriented countersink coupled thereto. An adjustable collar provides a support surface or platform for supporting a tube to be deburred in alignment with the axis of the vertical body. With the vertically-oriented body, the horizontally-oriented countersink and the adjustable collar, the inside of a tube may be easily deburred while held in vertical orientation.
