Abstract: An engraving system operable to engrave user-loaded items is provided. The engraving system may have a housing, an engraver located within the housing, and a carrier configured to receive from a user a cartridge holding then item to be engraved and to position the cartridge relative to the engraver. The carrier may be configured to engrave the item via windows in the cartridge, and to flip the cartridge relative to the engraver for engraving on multiple sides of the item.
Abstract: A method and a device for tuning and control of industrial processes having varying material flow rate. An adder is configured to add excitation signals to the controller output signal. A measurement system is configured to measure a property in response to the excitation signals. A model based tuning unit is adapted to estimate the value of at least one parameter with unknown value of a process model structure describing the effect of varying material flow rate, based on the measurements of the property and the output signal from the controller, and to calculate a model that describes the dynamics from controller output to controller input based on the estimated value of the parameter, and to perform model based tuning of the controller based on the model that describes the dynamics from controller output to controller input.
Abstract: A machine tool for machining a molded part, such as an elastomeric coated valve component includes a rotatable cutting tool having a shape corresponding to the shape of a cavity of the valve component. A method of machining the molded part is also disclosed.

Abstract: A device for detecting thermally caused linear expansions of a machine element, wherein the device includes a temperature sensor placed along an expansion direction. The temperature sensor includes a first metallic conductor having an electrical resistance that is proportional to an average temperature of an area to be monitored and a plurality of trimmer tracks in the form of further metallic conductors placed next to the first metallic conductor. The temperature sensor further includes electrical connections selectively interconnecting the plurality of trimmer tracks with the first metallic conductor and wherein the plurality of the trimmer tracks have an effective electrical resistance that is proportional to the average temperature of the area to be monitored.

Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a machine tool that the process accuracy does not deteriorate even if the accuracy of the machine itself changes to some extent. A work support means 3 of a spindle 8 etc. to support a work (W), a cutting means 4 of a movable feed bar 9 to the work support means 3 to process the work (W) and a tool base 10 and the like and a control unit 2 are provided. The control unit 2 controls the movement of the cutting means 4 by the measured positional information based on a process origin (Ow) of the work support means 3. The position measurement means 25 like a linear sensor is provided as the means to measure the position to the moving direction of the cutting means 4 based on the process origin (Ow).
Abstract: A method of controlling a relative movement of a cutting blade and a workpiece which are moved relative to each other by a movement device in an operation with a machine tool. The method includes a step of bringing the cutting blade and an object into contact with each other, by moving at least one of the cutting blade and the object toward each other by the movement device, and a step of controlling the relative movement on the basis of a relative position of the cutting blade and the object which is detected by the movement device upon the contact of the cutting blade and the object with each other.
Abstract: A feedrate and travelling distance before the feed orientation of a feed drive axis is obtained by analyzing NC programs when carrying out a machining action, and the lost motion correcting quantity corresponding to said feedrate and travelling distance is calculated by using the relationship obtained in advance by experiments. Furthermore, the lost motion correcting quantity obtained by calculations is overlapped onto the instruction value to a servo motor which drives the feed drive axis, when the feed orientation of said feed drive axis is reversed.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for aligning a crankpin grinding machine of the type having a pair of opposite facing workheads for mounting a crankshaft on its end journals and rotating the crankshaft about an axis passing through selected crankpins during the grinding of the selected crankpins and an indexing device in one of said workheads for indexing the crankshaft about the axis of the end journals to position and grind other selected crankpins. The apparatus is comprised of a laser for projecting a narrow collimated beam of light, a photoelectric target to intercept the target and produce an output which is indicative of where the laser beam intersects the target, an input-output unit to process the output of the target and display information to an operator; and special adapters to mount the laser and target on the crankpin grinding machine to align the workheads, workholders and indexing device of the machine.
Abstract: An improved machine for undercutting the commutator of a DC motor. Designed specifically to undercut the mica insulation slots of a commutator, the device includes drive means to allow slippage of an undercutting assembly so that saw and spindle assembly damage are avoided. The invention also incorporates an automatic skewing attachment which indirectly senses misallignment of mica slots to be undercut and acts to reposition the commutator as needed so that the mica slot undercutting process may continue.

Abstract: In effecting positioning of a workpiece relative to a working tool, indexing is carried out by obtaining precision measurement of the relative distance between the workpiece and the working tool by using a laser beam. Positioning can be effected with improved precision and working can be achieved with improved dimensional accuracy.
Abstract: A machine tool system having an adjustable implement mounted in a holder or chuck and moveably positioned relative to a moveable workpiece support, wherein implement adjustments are produced by controlled differential motion between the implement holder and an adjustment fixture on the workpiece support. The support is moved to engage the implement in the fixture, from which state further relative movement unlocks an implement clamp and produces a desired adjustment in the implement. Typical implement adjustment applications would include setting of a boring bar cutting radius (or setting of a measurement gauge dimension). The adjustments can be performed open loop based on prior calibration of implement adjustment versus extent of support motion, or closed loop wherein an initial cut (or measurement) is made by open loop implement adjustment with subsequent adjustments based upon a measurement made of the implements effective cutting (or measurement) dimension.

Abstract: An apparatus for shaping anodes for electrolytic refining in the form of flat plates having support ears extending outwardly of a top edge and opposite side edges thereof, the apparatus including a receptacle for holding the plates parallel, vertical and spaced apart, vertically movable beams engaging the ears for supporting the plates, shaping devices movable toward and away from opposing sides of the receptacle for shaping the under-surfaces of the support ears, and a device movable vertically and horizontally for transferring the plates into the receptacle for being shaped and for transferring the shaped plates from the receptacle, whereby the support ears may be shaped concurrently for improving the contact of the anodes with bus bars.
