  • Patent number: 7140089
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention is a compact, low-cost, lightweight, versatile and easy-to-operate, processor-controlled carving and multi-purpose shaping device (“PCCMPS machine”). The PCCMPS machine that represents one embodiment of the present invention is configured, in part, similarly to common, commercially available portable wood planers and ubiquitous laser and ink-jet computer printers, with work pieces fed into the PCCMPS machine in a horizontal direction. The PCCMPS machine includes a motor-powered cutting head that can power detachable bits to drill, cut, shape, and rout a work piece under processor and computer control. The cutting head may be translated, under processor control, back and forth across the surface of the work piece in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the work piece is fed into the PCCMPS machine and moved by motor-powered rollers.

Abstract: Envelope opening machine which is relatively small in size and suitable for use on table tops. The machine has a milling cutter and a pair of belts for feeding envelopes from a hopper past the cutter. The belts extend obliquely with respect to the path of the envelopes and tend to hold the envelopes tightly against a guide on one side of the path for precise alignment with the cutter. A removable chaff tray is located at the front of the machine, with a window for viewing the amount of chaff that has been collected. A removable cover overlies the belts and cutter, with hold-down wheels for maintaining the envelopes in contact with the belts and an interlock switch for deactuating the cutter when the cover is removed.

  • Patent number: 4493167
Abstract: In belt chamfering machines, the glass sheet being machined is gripped and conveyed during the machining (chamfering) of its edge between two facing portions of two belts. The rear belt extends downwards more than the front belt as it has to provide a support for the sheet at or in proximity to the edge being machined. Small sheets cannot be machined by known machines of this type because they would not be adequately gripped between the two belts. To obviate this drawback, the invention provides for the rear belt to be able to be adjusted in height so as to vary the downward projection of said belt relative to the front belt. At the same time, the position of the conveyors on which the sheets rest before and after machining can be adjusted to the same degree.

  • Patent number: 4218815
Abstract: A transfer machine of the type in which workpieces are successively transferred through a series of work stations on either side of the line of movement of the workpieces with work heads located at each station to perform various operations on the workpieces. The disclosed transfer machine consists of one or more transfer machine module units, each module including a prismatic base having upwardly directed sides upon which are mounted a series of oppositely directed heads and the workpiece transfer system mounted to the base and extending between the work heads to convey the workpieces up and down the base sides. The resulting vertical spacing of the work heads from one another enables closer spacing of the work heads by enabling access to the tooling through the space through which the workpieces are transferred, while reducing the floor space required for the machine. Also, chips formed during machining operations fall away so as not to accumulate at the machining station.

  • Patent number: 4196760
Abstract: A machine for making wood moldings includes an endless feed belt extending downstream from the upper face cutter head for holding short lengths of wood pieces securely between the working stretch of the feed belt and the underlying bed plate and delivering it through side and lower face cutter heads. An air plenum container overlies and bears against the working stretch of the feed belt to provide uniform feed pressure to the wood throughout the length of the working stretch and delivers air under pressure through a multiplicity of holes in the plenum container to the confronting side of the working stretch of the belt for minimizing friction between the belt and container. Short lengths of wood pieces are delivered in spaced-apart relationship to the upper face cutter head between an elongated side feed belt and an elongated air fence.
