Abstract: A machining device has a machine head capable of displacement along at least three translation axes X, Y, Z for machining an immobile part fixed above the machining head. The machining head is maintained in a constant orientation by at least three articulated connecting rods. Two connecting rods define together with the machining head and with a first Y carriage, on which they are articulated, an deformable articulated parallelogram in the XZ plane. Another connecting rod is articulated on the machining head and on a second Y carriage and the second Y carriage is capable of displacement along Y on a second X carriage capable of displacement along X. Abstract: A method of machining outer surface of bodies of revolution by way of cutting, wherein a blank and a cutting tool are rotated about their axes, arranged out of line in mutually perpendicular planes, and are moved relative to each other at the beginning of a pass in the direction perpendicular to the blank surface being machined for cutting-in through the cutting depth, while the length of the cutting edge of the cutting tool is selected such that it spans the width of the blank cutting surface and, in the course of the cutting tool rotation, successively passes the blank cutting surface over the entire length thereof. The cutting machine for accomplishing the above process, has bed stocks which are mounted for positioning and rotating the blank being machined, and a rest arranged in guides provided in the bed.

  • Patent number: 4171654
Abstract: The machine of the present invention is an internal milling machine designed to mill the crank pins and crank arm cheeks of heavy crankshafts to precise dimensions. By relatively simply substitutions of gage blocks, the machine is capable of milling crankshafts having a wide range of crankshaft throw and pin diameters. An internal milling cutter is mounted on the machine frame for operation within a general plane which is stationary with respect to the machine frame, the crank pins to be milled being axially and rotatively indexed in succession to a fixed position in operative relationship with the internal milling cutter. The crankshaft is supported at its opposite ends by chucks mounted in a headstock and a tail-stock which are rigidly coupled to each other by tie-rods for simultaneous axial indexing movement.

  • Patent number: RE37794
Abstract: A crankshaft is mounted in a fixture which rotates the crankshaft about its longitudinal axis and which tilts the cranksahft about a horizontal axis to allow matching of holes such as oil holes at various rotational positions and at various tilt angles to the longitudinal axis. Preferably, a cutting tool moves along a horizontal plunging axis Z to machine the depth of the hole and moves along a horizontal X axis to machine holes on or offset from the longitudinal axis. The cutting tool may also be shifted vertically along a Y-axis. Preferably, a pair of crankshafts are mounted side-by-side in the fixture to machine two crankshafts simultaneously. The fixture is mounted for tilting by trunnions. The pair of crankshafts are spun about the longitudinal axes by a motor carried on the tiltable fixture. An automatic tool changer and loading apparatus store cutting tools and associated guide bushings for the cutting tools.

  • Patent number: RE34125
Abstract: A roller hold down device for removable work table which has a pair of rollers which extend transversely across the workpiece mounted on the movable table so as to hold it down and with a pair of cam roller members mounted on either side of the movable table and formed with cam portions so as to engage the rollers at the end of travel so as to force the rollers up away from the workpiece and also so as to prevent the rollers from falling off of the end of the workpiece. The rollers are controlled by hydraulic cylinders which can be actuated to automatically move them to the down position and also to move them to the up position.
