Arcuate Groove In Cylindrical Surface Patents (Class 409/260)
  • Patent number: 8070401
Abstract: An improved centrifugally-cast tube is provided, along with a related method and apparatus of making the tube. The tube includes a plurality of grooves and bosses that are mechanically machined into an interior surface of the tube, such as by a broaching process. The profile of grooves and bosses may be defined by a plurality of intersecting concave and convex radii. The tube is resistant to creep, carburization and metal dusting. The tube also has an enhanced heat transfer rate, and a desirable surface roughness. A method of making the tube is also provided. The method essentially consists of mechanically deforming the interior surface of the tube by passing a series of cutting inserts on support rings having incrementally-differing dimensions over the interior surface.

  • Patent number: 7465134
Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention provides a broaching machine configured to produce an internal gear member. The broaching machine includes a broaching tool defining a central axis. The broaching tool includes a first set of broaching teeth configured to cut only a first flank portion of a plurality of gear teeth; and a second set of broaching teeth configured to cut only a second flank portion of the plurality of gear teeth. The plurality of gear teeth are formed such that the first and second flank portions of each gear tooth are tapered between a first end portion and a second end portion. The broaching machine also includes a motor configured to rotate the broaching tool about the central axis at a selectable rate and in a selectable direction. A corresponding method for producing an internal gear member is also provided.

Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention provides a broaching machine configured to produce an internal gear member. The broaching machine includes a broaching tool defining a central axis. The broaching tool includes a first set of broaching teeth configured to cut both a first flank portion and a second flank portion of a plurality of gear teeth. The broaching tool also includes a second set of broaching teeth configured to cut only the second flank portion of the plurality of gear teeth. The plurality of gear teeth are formed such that the first and second flank portions of each gear tooth are tapered between a first end portion and a second end portion. • Patent number: 4247234
Abstract: The present invention relates to a relatively small hand-held tool for cutting grooves in the ends of small diameter pipe and for sizing the outside diameter for a predetermined length. More particularly the tool has a drive housing in which cutting blades are located and a pipe housing, pivotally connected to the drive housing, in which the pipe end is positioned. A coil spring, acting against both housings, provides the blade pressure on the pipe. Grooving is done by rotating the tool about the pipe.
