Patent number: 5755539Abstract: A shaping machine wherein either a work or a tool is a rod-like member extending along a straight center line while the other is a member having a hole capable of being fitted on the rod-like member and wherein the work is shaped while the member having the hole passes through the rod-like member from one end toward the other end of the rod-like member. The shaping machine comprises a feed mechanism for causing relative movement of the rod-like member and the member having the hole to each other along the center line of the rod-like member, a center line of the feed mechanism being coincident with the center line of the rod-like member.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1996Date of Patent: May 26, 1998Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Tatsuya Takeuchi, Noritaka Ise, Tomoji Honda, Toshio Kira, Tetsuaki Hiura

Patent number: 5192174Abstract: A hydraulic drive (10) for the adjustment, feed and return movements of a tool head of a machine tool comprises a hydraulic motor (11) and an after-running adjustment valve (12). The reference value of the position is set and the actual value indicated by means of a threaded spindle (39) and spindle nut (37) in the form of a hollow shaft. One of these two elements can be driven by an electric motor (41) in order to set the reference value of the position. The other of these two elements can be driven in order to indicate the value of the actual position. A rotational and angular position indicator system (68, 74, 75 and 69, 77) produces an output which is a direct measure of the total number of revolutions executed by the preset reference value shaft and of the azimuthal position of the preset reference value shaft within each revolution. An electronic position sensor system (71, 78 and 71', 78'; 71") produces an output which is a measure of the contouring error S.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1992Date of Patent: March 9, 1993Inventor: Hans Hartmann

Patent number: 4382731Abstract: An apparatus is provided for machining a flat surface on a workpiece and comprises an annular frame on which an annular wheel is rotatably mounted around a predetermined axis of rotation. A plurality of circumferentially spaced cutting members are secured to one axial surface of the wheel and preferably these cutting members are broaching tools. At least one, and preferably a plurality of circumferentially spaced workpiece holding fixtures are also mounted to the frame so that each fixture is open to, spaced from and axially aligned with said axial surface of said wheel. Each fixture can hold one workpiece with the surface to be machined adjacent the axial surface of the wheel with the cutting members. The wheel is continuously rotatably driven by a suitable motor at a high rotational speed, i.e. in excess of 200 surface feet/minute, while a feed unit associated with each fixture selectively axially moves its fixture with its workpiece towards the wheel, i.e.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1981Date of Patent: May 10, 1983Inventor: Russell L. Patent number: 4266894Abstract: The machine of the invention comprises a base designed to accomodate a blank being machined, and a mandrel with a broach connected to a hydraulic drive imparting movement thereto. The mandrel is provided with a guide located between a broach-supporting end of the mandrel and its other, fixed end. The guide has a passage for the mandrel in the course of inside broaching in the blank. According to one of the embodiments of the invention, the guide is made as a traverse resting against uprights fixed on the base. The traverse has a guide passage for the broach-supporting mandrel and two holes arranged symmetrically with respect to the guide passage and serving as guides for the rods of hydraulic cylinders of the machine hydraulic drive. Each one of the hydraulic cylinders is located partly in the base and partly in the upright. The rods are interconnected above the traverse with a cross-piece supporting the mandrel with broach.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1978Date of Patent: May 12, 1981Inventors: Georgy I.
