Patent number: 7294046Abstract: A method for dressing an essentially cylindrical grinding worm on a machine suitable for continuous generation grinding in the diagonal method. The dressing tool is an essentially cylindrical gear wheel, having an abrasive coating on the surface that effects the dressing, which is brought into engagement with the grinding worm to move relative to the grinding worm in axial direction of the same to profile the flanks of the grinding worm. A periodically alternating movement in axial direction of the dressing gear wheel is superimposed on the relative movement of the dressing gear wheel, with the wavelength of the oscillating relative movement being the same or smaller than the usable width of the grinding worm in its axial direction.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2005Date of Patent: November 13, 2007Assignee: The Gleason WorksInventors: Antoine Turich, Gerhard Reichert

Patent number: 6960051Abstract: A milling tool includes a milling body and a plurality of cutting inserts. The milling body has fastening devices to hold the cutting inserts in a plurality of respective insert pockets each having at least one base surface. Each of the cutting inserts has at least one cutting edge. The tool has a rotational axis and a rotational direction, as well as a feed direction and an end surface. The milling tool is provided to cut a work piece substantially in an axial direction of the tool, which is substantially perpendicular to the feed direction.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2004Date of Patent: November 1, 2005Assignee: Seco Tools ABInventor: Jorma Koskinen

Patent number: 5720585Abstract: A method of forming grooves with cutting edges in the sides of the teeth of a shaving cutter comprises, in order:a first machining step with the removal of shavings, in the course of which a plurality of grooves is formed, each groove having two side walls substantially perpendicular to a plane tangential to the respective side of the tooth, anda second machining step with the removal of shavings, in the course of which the side walls of each groove are machined to produce a cutting edge with an acute cutting angle.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1995Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: U.S.P.I.T. Patent number: 4596066Abstract: A machining center or system for shaping workpieces, having a numerical controller (NC) for transmitting control commands in accordance with input data. A principal tool has a tool holder and a numerically controlled machining feed unit for shaping a workpiece under the numerical commands. A tool storage station accepts a plurality of formed machining tools and a tool changing mechanism interconnects the tool storage station and the principal machine tool. The center incorporates a tool reforming station which responds to a set of numerical commands from the NC unit to act on a formed machining tool when on one of the tool storage station, the tool changing mechanism and the tool holder in the principal machine tool.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1984Date of Patent: June 24, 1986Assignee: Inoue-Japax Research IncorporatedInventor: Kiyoshi Inoue

Patent number: 4529344Abstract: To set the proper location of a cutting bit, an optical scanner directs an optical beam toward a screen. The scanner is mounted on a base frame. The cutting bit is mounted on a cutting head holder which is, in turn, mounted on a support stage, the latter being vertically adjustable on the base frame. The cutting head holder is adjustable relative to the support stage and the measuring point. The support stage carries three support bodies for the rear side of the cutter head holder.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1983Date of Patent: July 16, 1985Assignee: Santrade Ltd.Inventor: Wolfgang Gebhardt

Patent number: 4497139Abstract: A tool (15) to be ground is mounted in a vertical position to the upper end of a vertically oriented piston (21). The lower end of the piston (21) is received into the open end of a cylinder (22). Radial fluid bearings (28, 29) are pressurized to permit rotational and longitudinal movement of the piston (21) with respect to the cylinder (22). Pressurized fluid is delivered to the piston (21) to exert a force on the piston (21) that nearly counterbalances the combined weight of the piston (21) and the tool (15). Additional fluid pressure or some other suitable force is applied to move the piston (21) and the tool (15) axially upwardly. At the end of the upward stroke, the additional force on the piston (21) is removed to allow said combined weight to move the piston (21) and the tool (15) downwardly. During the upward stroke, the downward stroke, or both the upward and the downward strokes, a grinding wheel (13) is held in a fixed position to contact a side surface of tool (15).Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1984Date of Patent: February 5, 1985Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventor: Clarence R.
