  • Patent number: 6976813
Abstract: A cutter holder assembly for holding a cutting tool supported at a tool carriage moving in at least an X-Y plane and provided with a cutter for engraving an item to be engraved includes a mounting base capable of being fitted to the tool carriage, a holder base supported at the mounting base in such a manner as to be freely moveable along a Z-axis provided in direction of a prescribed straight line, and a cutting tool holder having a cutting tool support supporting the cutting tool and being fixed to the holder base. Rotation of the cutting tool holder about the Z-axis with respect to the mounting base is restrained and an angle of inclination ? constituted by an angle formed when a longitudinal axis of the cutter and the Z-axis intersect can be held at a prescribed angle. It is therefore possible to provide a cutter holder assembly for an engraver capable of implementing engraving technology capable of a variety of types of engraving of a wide variation without limitation at a part to be engraved.

  • Patent number: 6491072
Abstract: The invention provides a woodworking duplicator which is adapted to be attached to a standard radial arm saw. The device allows a rotating cutting tool and a stylus to be movably supported allowing the user to trace a pattern with the stylus while cutting the pattern into a work piece with the cutter. The invention provides a duplicator that may be mounted to a radial arm saw wherein the duplicator includes elements that may be moved in five different directions. The invention also provides a duplicator having a stylus and a cutter that may be easily locked into different parallel positions so that the user of the duplicator may more easily trace the item being duplicated. The invention also provides a duplicator that supports the weight of the stylus and cutter tool.

  • Patent number: 4909292
Abstract: A boring, mortising, tenoning and duplicating woodworking machine including a horizontally movable workpiece support platform and vertically movable cutting tool support member. A tracing element is preferably mounted to the cutting tool support structure for tracing an object mounted to the workpiece support platform so that the object can be duplicated in the workpiece. A series of apertures are defined in the cutting tool support structure so that exhaust air from the engine can facilitate the removal of debris from the cutting tool/workpiece interface. Further a guard is provided for protecting the operator from flying wood chips and the like and wiper elements are mounted to wheels of the workpiece support platform to maintain the tracks of the workpiece support platform clear of wood chips and debris which would hinder the cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4863318
Abstract: A pantograph device is disclosed which accomplishes the duplication of a three-dimensional model to a proportionately reduced degree. The device renders a clear and distinct copy, including the undercutting of certain configurations if necessary. A guide mechanism acts a a follower for sensing the configuration of the model and transmitting its movement to a cutting mechanism which reproduces the model by cutting away unnecessary portions of a blank. The size of the copy produced by the cutting mechanism (that is, the degree of reduction from the model) can be varied in the present invention. The cutting and guide mechanisms are manufactured in alignment by the structural connections of the present invention. Furthermore, the ratios of the distance separating these mechanisms and a common print are maintained equivalent so that the size of the copy bears a similar relationship to the size of the model.

  • Patent number: 4787430
Abstract: A duplicating router of the type in which a cutter unit provided with a motor and a cutter is fed vertically and horizontally with respect to a base. A cutter unit feeding screw rod is installed parallel with guide bars and rotates for operation on a vertical guide frame formed through framing left and right guides fitted movably up and down in elongated guide grooves provided on vertical guide plates fixed on both sides of the base and two parallel guide bars supporting the cutter unit for movement to the left and right, thus forming a screw feeding means. A link handle in a link motion is connected between the base and the left and right guides, thus forming a link feeding means. A template is fixed on upper portions of the vertical guide plates. A duplicating recessed groove is formed in the template in the direction orthogonal to an upper surface of the base.

  • Patent number: 4749013
Abstract: A woodworking apparatus including a work carriage having a base mounted on a bed for rectilinear sliding movement along a first axis in a first plane and a work platform mounted on the base for rectilinear sliding movement along a second axis parallel to the first axis and in a second plane parallel to the first plane. A tool carriage carrying a motor driven rotary cutting tool is mounted on the bed for rectilinear sliding movement along a third axis transverse to the first and second axes. Levers are provided for actuating movements of the base, the platform, and the tool carriage. A gas spring may be connected with the tool carriage to counterbalance the weight of the tool carriage assembly. A template and following stylus also may be provided for guiding the tool carriage relative to the work carriage in accordance with a predetermined pattern. The work surface supporting a workpiece may be tilted relative to the rotational axis of the cutting tool.

  • Patent number: 4693645
Abstract: The invention relates to a duplicating milling-machine which operates simultaneously in the horizontal and vertical planes. This is achieved according to the present invention in that, in the centric three-dimensional duplicating milling-machine, the table for the original is positioned vertically over the cutting table, and by the addition of a dual-displacement arm which rotates around a vertical column. On this column is mounted a universal milling-machine which is linked to a feeler by means of a coordinator arm. The cutting tool and the feeler are mounted centrally above one another and the transfer of the original is effected in full scale.

  • Patent number: 4604007
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for guiding a powered cutting tool as a function of a traced preselected pattern. The apparatus preferably includes a table member for supporting both of work piece and a paper or the like, exhibiting the pattern of interest. A first pair of rail members are fixedly mounted to or adjacent opposite sides of the table member, in parallel with each other, and on opposite sides of both the work piece and the paper exhibiting the pattern. In addition, a carriage assembly is slidably positioned on the first pair of rails, for movably supporting a stylus above the paper exhibiting the pattern, and for movably supporting the cutting tool and its driving mechanism adjacent the work piece.
