  • Patent number: 6641340
Abstract: The present invention is directed to enhancing the accuracy with which tooth restorations are performed, including the manner by which a tooth is prepared and fit with a dental prosthetic, such as a crown or bridge. Further, the present invention is directed to reducing the skill-dependent tasks associated with tooth restoration, including root canals, while at the same time, improving the precision with which these procedures are performed and by aesthetics of the prosthetic. By improving the accuracy of restoration procedures, any need to repeat these procedures for a given patient can be eliminated and patient comfort can be improved. In addition, by improving the precision with which a prosthetic is prepared for attachment to the prepared tooth of a patient, and/or fit to patient, durability and longevity of the prosthetic are improved.

  • Patent number: 4865093
Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming a workpiece or chair mat with cleats on the underside thereof, and with a marginal peripheral area void of cleats, and for trimming the edge of a generally planar workpiece. A rotatable work table is provided for positioning the workpiece. A router head includes an inclined router blade engageable with the edge of the workpiece to form a beveled ramp edge thereabout. A template is positioned between the workpiece and the work table, and the router head has a cam follower engageable with and movable along the edge of the template for guiding the router blade along the edge of the workpiece during rotation of the work table. A cooling medium is directed toward the area of engagement between the router blade and the edge of the workpiece. The depth of cut is controlled by a cam disk mounted on the bottom of the router head engageable with the top of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4863318
Abstract: A pantograph device is disclosed which accomplishes the duplication of a three-dimensional model to a proportionately reduced degree. The device renders a clear and distinct copy, including the undercutting of certain configurations if necessary. A guide mechanism acts a a follower for sensing the configuration of the model and transmitting its movement to a cutting mechanism which reproduces the model by cutting away unnecessary portions of a blank. The size of the copy produced by the cutting mechanism (that is, the degree of reduction from the model) can be varied in the present invention. The cutting and guide mechanisms are manufactured in alignment by the structural connections of the present invention. Furthermore, the ratios of the distance separating these mechanisms and a common print are maintained equivalent so that the size of the copy bears a similar relationship to the size of the model.

  • Patent number: 4687390
Abstract: Apparatus for scribe engraving a workpiece with a miniature representation of a two-dimensional pattern in response to movement of a stylus following the pattern includes a spherically rotatable member having a frusto-spherical surface rotatably retained within a frusto-spherical bearing race remote from the pattern and having a passageway therethrough axially skew to the pattern, where the scribe extends fixedly from the spherically rotatable member for movement unitarily with the rotatable member, including means for connecting the rotatable member with the stylus so that the rotatable member rotates in response to stylus movement following the pattern where the connecting means is selectably disengageable from the rotatable member.

  • Patent number: 4623288
Abstract: Apparatus for fabricating a compensating filter for use in radiation therapy includes a stylus for tracing the profile of a surface portion of a patient and a cutter for cutting a form. The stylus and cutter are positioned on first and second guides which are connected by a tie bar. A plurality of linkages translate movement of the stylus along its guide to the cutter along its guide. A mold is cut in the form which is filled with compensating material for forming the filter. The ratio of movement of the stylus to the cutter is established by the linkages in accordance with the ratio of radiation absorption of the compensating material to the radiation absorption of human tissue.

  • Patent number: 4406567
Abstract: Apparatus for engraving has a work piece support adjacent to scribing means for engraving inidicia on the work piece. A stylus moves a pivotal support to which scribing means is attached. Front-writing is achieved by positioning the scribing means above the stylus but below the pivot of the pivotal support. Scribing means concurrently engrave a plurality of work pieces from a single stylus. The work piece support is movable up and down, towards and away from the scribing means. The distance between the pivotal support and the stylus is adjustable. Vibratory means connected to the pivotal support vibrate the scribing means when the scribing means contacts the work piece. Identification means for dentures is provided.
