Patent number: 5157822Abstract: A plate working machine comprising a metal plate supporting table (1), a pair of rails (2, 3) extending along the sides of the table (1), a driven support means (4) for travel along the rails (2, 3), said support means comprising a spaced pair of support beams (5, 6) extending from one rail (2) to the other (3) and joined at either end by cross members (7, 8). A drilling assembly (9) is mounted on tracks (10, 11) mounted on the beams (5, 6) and a plasma profiling head (12) is carried by the drilling assembly (9) and extends over the beam (6) and downwardly towards a position adjacent the table (1).Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1989Date of Patent: October 27, 1992Assignee: Farley Cutting Systems Australia Pty. Ltd.Inventor: Peter A. Farley

Patent number: 4792265Abstract: A surfacing and boring machine for reconditioning engine blocks has a front stationary work table, a traveling column on rails provided by an elongated rigid base, a power head unit on the column adjustable in an air float condition to move an overhanging spindle forwardly and rearwardly, and mechanisms in the power head unit to independently move a spindle carrier vertically and to rotate the spindle at selected speeds. Clamping devides are provided to independently clamp the power head unit to the traveling column and the column to the base rails. A quick-change unit is located in the spindle for the tools.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1987Date of Patent: December 20, 1988Assignee: Rottler Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Donald B. Patent number: 4770572Abstract: A press for manufacturing helical gears having a punch with a cutting edge; a die with a cutting edge, one of the cutting edges being shaped as a helical gear and the other having a shape corresponding to the shape of the one cutting edge; and a bolster rotatable about an axis and provided with one of the die and the punch. The die and said punch are pressed together and the bolster is rotatably driven by a driving element in response to a lead of a helical gear to be manufactured. The stroke of the punch is detected and a desired rotation angle of a driving element is calculated and then signalled to the driving element.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1986Date of Patent: September 13, 1988Assignee: Amino Iron Works Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kiyoyasu Ohkawa, Masao Murakawa

Patent number: 4614468Abstract: For facilitating the rotating of a tool-receiving device, in particular an angled milling head, an elongated bushing which is concentric with respect to the milling spindle axis is secured in the milling spindle carriage. The bushing has at its free (lower) end a conical receiving opening. A support sleeve is rotatably supported in the bushing by means of radial and axial bearings. The support sleeve has at its free (lower) end a fastening flange for the tool-receiving device. Above the fastening flange is provided a centering cone conforming in shape to and fitting into the conical receiving opening. An oil film is interpositioned between the opening and the centering cone to provide a uniform support for the support sleeve. The milling spindle is supported in the support sleeve. By means of a ring gear, which is driven by a servomotor, it is possible to rotate the tool-receiving device about the axis of the milling spindle into predetermined angular positions.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1984Date of Patent: September 30, 1986Assignee: Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik Adolf Waldrich Coburg GmbH & Co.Inventors: Otto Waldrich, Rolf Eckstein

Patent number: 4584916Abstract: A lead face machining apparatus for machining a lead face on a cylindrical workpiece. The apparatus includes a spindle unit having the workpiece rotatably mounted on it, an end cam provided rotatably together with the spindle, a first slide table and a second slide table such that each of the spindle unit, first slide table and second slide table has a static pressure fluid bearing structure. The apparatus is further provided with means for supplying fluid to the static pressure fluid bearings in common, whereby the workpiece is least subjected to vibration produced through contact of the end cam by a lead machining unit for machining the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1982Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Mamoru Inoue, Morimichi Hasegawa, Shozi Hara, Kiyokazu Imanishi, Yoshiyuki Kubota, Haruhiko Kitagawa

Patent number: 4272216Abstract: The control valve for a hydrostatic bearing on a machine tool slide is opened when motion is commanded along the corresponding machine tool axis to eliminate sticking at the start of motion. The valve is closed when the velocity of motion exceeds a predetermined level and is opened again when the velocity drops below the predetermined value to eliminate sticking at the end of motion. The valve is closed again when the machine tool slide arrives at its commanded position.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1978Date of Patent: June 9, 1981Assignee: Kearney & Trecker CorporationInventor: John G.
