  • Patent number: 8398343
Abstract: The present invention is a cargo restraint system for protecting a barrel-contained cargo in a cargo vehicle space during transportation. In one example, the cargo vehicle may contain two sets of stacked barrels with each set having three vertical levels of barrels. In a first embodiment of the invention, the cargo restraint system includes at least one crush cushion placed at either a front end or a back end of the barrel-contained cargo. The crush cushion provides at least five contact points against each barrel and the contact points are arranged along three levels of crush zones. An end-wall system is placed adjacent to the crush cushion. At least one angle member with a plurality of strap separation slots is coupled to the end-wall system. Each strap is threaded through the strap separation slots and is anchored to the cargo vehicle to securely hold the barrel-contained cargo to the crush cushion and the end wall system.

  • Patent number: 8152425
Abstract: A pair of pipe bunks are utilized on in combination with a flatbed truck, deck of a work boat, or other conveyance means for securing loads of long, heavy, structural members during transportation. The pipe bunks have particular utility for oilfield tubulars. Each pipe bunk comprises a horizontal base member which is attached cross-wise to the flatbed of the truck, or deck of the workboat. A horizontal beam is attached to the horizontal base member and a vertical member is affixed to each opposing outside end of the horizontal beam. Adjustable slide members are slidingly attached to the horizontal base member, where each adjustable slide member has a vertical member which is disposed in offset facing relation with a respective outside vertical member. The slide members are attached to the horizontal base member with guide members. The slide members are adjustable with respect to the distance of each from the respective outside vertical member to accommodate the width of the desired load.

  • Patent number: 8113753
Abstract: A steel dunnage element includes a countersunk portion defined adjacent to a working face of the element and which has two slots defined therein. The ends of the dunnage element include grooves to define hand holds and are arcuate so as to not harm a tie down cord that contacts the element. The slots are used to secure the dunnage element in a suitable location. Friction material can be located in the countersunk portion to further secure the cargo.

  • Patent number: 7970989
Abstract: A hard disk cache includes entries to be written to a disk, and also includes ordering information describing the order that they should be written to the disk. Data may be written from the cache to the disk in the order specified by the ordering information. In some situations, data may be written out of order. Further, in some situations, clean data from the cache may be combined with dirty data from the cache when performing a cache flush.

  • Patent number: 7766588
Abstract: A retaining member 16 is provided for use with a frame 10 for packaging elongate members, such as sections of tubular, for example casing, liner or drill pipe. The retaining member 16 comprises a pressure plate 18 on which is mounted a pair of pivoting hooks 20 for engaging with protrusions 36 formed on the frame 10. The hooks 20 are connected to threaded rods 28 received in a sleeve 30. A ratcheted handle 34 allows selective rotation of the sleeve 30 to draw the rods 28 therein, and so to pivot the hooks 20 to urge the pressure plate 18 against members received within the frame 10. A quick release mechanism is provided to allow easy release of the hooks 20 and the retaining member 16.

  • Patent number: 6572313
Abstract: This invention relates to methods that can be used for the safe storage and transportation of freight rail wheelsets. The object of this invention is to prevent the direct contact between the roller bearings or axle and the adjacent wheelset flange. To do this at storage sites the application of a roller bearing or axle protector to the present wheelset stacking arrangement is required. During transportation this objective is achieved by (a) applying roller bearing protectors, (b) applying axle protectors, (c) shifting the wheelsets on the wheel transporter so that roller bearing and adjacent wheel flange never come in contact, (d) applying wheelset stoppers and/or axle spacers.

  • Patent number: 6364584
Abstract: A combination shipping container, shipping container locking device and a door blocking apparatus inhibits access to the interior of the shipping container while it is being shipped. The blocking apparatus comprises a pair of legs joined to form a generally L-shaped, elongate member, wherein one of the legs provides a pair of spaced apart apertures, with each of the apertures fitted over the container locking device and locked in place adjacent to a set of closed doors of the shipping container. The other of the legs of the elongate member extends upwardly from the first leg in a position for blocking the doors of the shipping container from being opened.

  • Patent number: 6158931
Abstract: An adapter for increasing the frictional force generated by a spacer interposed between a pair of items. The spacer defining a pair of opposed load bearing surfaces and a pair of spacing surfaces. The adapter includes a relatively flat plate defining a pair of plate surfaces, a pair of opposed contacting edges and a pair of spacing edges. A fixing component is provided for fixing the plate to one of the spacing surfaces of the spacer. A set of friction increasing teeth extend from at least one of the contacting edges for increasing the friction coefficient of the contacting edge with an item. The plate is configured and sized so that the friction enhancing teeth protrude from one of the load bearing surfaces when the plate is mounted on the spacer. In one embodiment, the adapter also includes an auxiliary friction enhancing segment for enhancing the friction between the adapter and contacting items.

  • Patent number: 4496270
Abstract: A chain cap is provided for forming a stable load suitable for vehicular travel from a plurality of elongate articles. A plurality of the chain caps are provided for encompassing the elongate articles. Each of the chain caps are provided with interfitting surfaces which interlock when the chain caps are stacked, tie bar surfaces which define tie bar channels extending between adjacent chain caps and conformal surfaces for engaging the elongate articles. Each of the elongate articles is engaged by at least a pair of the chain caps, the conformal surfaces of the chain caps engaging opposing sides of the elongate articles. A first planar array of the elongate articles is established, the elongate articles being disposed in a roughly parallel relationship with pairs of chain caps being adjacently disposed for defining a tie bar channel therebetween. A tie bar is mounted in the tie bar channel, the tie bar extending between adjacent pairs of chain caps.
