The bearing support members include an upper surface and an elongated, upwardly facing opening to receive one of the pivot shafts of the container, the opening including a pair of spaced, substantially parallel walls the outermost of which is longer than the innermost to define a transverse stop means for the pivot shafts when the container is being loaded on the truck bed.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1984Date of Patent: July 9, 1985Inventor: Diego R. Patent number: 4478155Abstract: An improved container for bulk cargo is provided with a peripheral wall, a top, and a bottom. The top defines a longitudinally extending central ridge and the bottom defines two spaced, parallel, longitudinally extending skirts separated by a central recess. The contour of the top generally corresponds to the contour of the bottom such that multiple containers can be stacked one over the other. The container is provided with a perforated floor which simultaneously braces the peripheral wall against spreading and provides a support surface for palletized cargo and the like. The floor perforations allow bulk cargo to fall from the upper portions of the container to the lower portions of the container. A bulk cargo loading door is provided in the top along the uppermost portion of the central ridge, and two bulk unloading doors are provided along the lowermost portions of the skirts. In addition, end doors are provided for moving palletized cargo into and out of the container.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1981Date of Patent: October 23, 1984Assignee: Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway CompanyInventors: Lawrence Cena, Ted D. Patent number: 4441842Abstract: A foot actuated latch for use in an aircraft cargo bay to provide vertical and longitudinal restraint of a cargo container. The latch having a lineal engaging and disengaging action which resists lineal forces parallel to latch movement tending to disengage that latch pawl from the container. The actuation of the latch for engagement and disengagement accomplished by a downward movement of the latch levers.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1981Date of Patent: April 10, 1984Assignee: McDonnell Douglas CorporationInventor: Jeffrey P. Patent number: 4430032Abstract: Latch for locking a container to a pedestal on the flat deck of a flat car and particularly containers containing flammable materials. The container is supported on a pedestal at each corner thereof and the pedestals are adjustably mounted in guideways for movement along the deck of the flat car in accordance with the length of the container, to support containers at selected intervals along the car. A spring biased latch is provided to lock the container to the pedestal and a lock is provided for the latch is provided which reacts against the pedestal and includes a biasing spring for the lock to positively hold the latch in a locked position even though the car should be derailed.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1981Date of Patent: February 7, 1984Assignee: Portec, Inc.Inventor: David P. Patent number: 4239430Abstract: A jack and tie-down system for the front end of a vehicle mounted box shaped cargo unit having a front wall and a transversely extended chamber means secured to the inner surface thereof. A pair of front jack assemblies each includes a horizontal support structure guidably mounted within the chamber means for movement from a storage position in the chamber means to an operating position projected outwardly from an associated end of the chamber means. A linearly extendible and retractible jack unit is releasably mounted at the outer end of each projected support member for adjustment into and out of ground engagement. When the cargo unit is to be transported the jack units are retracted and detached from their associated support members. Each jack unit is then received within a support member, and the resulting assembly stored in the chamber means within the transverse confines of the cargo unit.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1979Date of Patent: December 16, 1980Inventor: Richard L.
