Coil Spring Patents (Class 411/12)
  • Patent number: 11852182
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for viewing tension loss in a structure, by engagement with a threaded rod, being carried out, for example, by a bolt made up of a screw, a nut, and consisting of two non-deformable washers comprising an inner face, an outer face, an outer peripheral wall and an inner peripheral wall delimiting a central opening and a diametrically deformable viewing ring sandwiched between the two non-deformable washers, characterized in that the ring is crush-resistant and the thickness of at least one of the washers decreases from the center of the washer towards the peripheral end thereof, the smallest thickness thus being located towards the peripheral end of at least one washer.

  • Patent number: 10161434
Abstract: A hollow screw and related process of making is provided, wherein the hollow screw is formed from a generally circular corrosion resistant stainless steel disk cut from flat roll stock. The hollow screw includes a head and an elongated and hollow shaft having a wall thickness between about 0.2 to about 0.7 millimeters extending therefrom and defining a shank portion and a threaded portion having a plurality of threads thereon with a rotational drive mechanism configured to facilitate tightening via the threads. The process involves annealing to soften the stamped hollow screw, followed by thread rolling, and then age hardening the hollow screw. As such, the resultant hollow screw is relatively lightweight, about 50% the mass of a solid core screw made from the same material, with a sufficient thread strength to meet most aerospace applications and contributes to important aircraft fuel economy.

  • Publication number: 20080042373
Abstract: A sealing apparatus adapted for use in a pressure vessel such as a synthesis gas cooler. The sealing apparatus is of a segmented plate construction formed around an outer wall section of a conduit means of the pressure vessel that defines at least part of a passage for receiving effluent from a gasification process. Pressure responsive mechanisms are provided on the plate segments to maintain the pressure difference across the sealing apparatus within the acceptable operating limits as well as to permit instantaneous pressure release to prevent damage to the pressure part assembly or cage. The seal is also maintained continuously through the differential growth movement between the conduit means and the pressure vessel during heat up and cool down cycles.

  • Patent number: 4958970
Abstract: A graduated-load spring washer system for screws and threaded fasteners uses a deflection coil spring of slightly less than one coil with special end configurations for anti-marring. A cross-section of the coil spring is substantially trapezoidal, with the outer periphery thickness being the dimension of the trapezoid base and larger than the inner thickness dimension. When placed under the head of a threaded fastener and flattened upon tightening of the fastener, the device maintains a large tailored preload to prevent loosening even during and after stress relaxation and creep, and eliminates the need for a usual flat washer below the coil to prevent marring. The device also eliminates requirement for use of torque application measuring tools because preload can be determined by sight or tactile sensing.

  • Patent number: 4840521
Abstract: The element is constituted by an elongated tube whose height is equal to or exceeds 0.8 times its diameter, and which has a bearing surface on one face of the members to be assembled and a bearing surface on one face of a nut, the two bearing surfaces being interrupted by a slot completely passing through the tube in a generally longitudinal directional section, a displacement being provided on each of the bearing surfaces and between the zones of the bearing surfaces respectively located on either side of the slot, the two displacements being in opposite directions in the longitudinal direction of the element.
