Abstract: A method of securing a composite plastic part to an engine with a bolt or a bolt and washer. The bolt has a head including teeth that are adapted to engage either the part or the washer. The bolt is tightened to cause the teeth to compress the surface of the part to resist rotation that may become loosened as a result of vibration of the engine. The part may be an intake manifold, a cam cover or an oil pan. Locking features, such as teeth, may be provided on the clamping surface of the bolt and on both surfaces of the washer. Alternatively, a knurled or serrated surface may be provided instead of the teeth.

Abstract: A nut holding structure for a solar power junction is disclosed. The nut includes screw-connected base having one end disposed on junction box and other end has a holding assembly and a threaded segment. The nut is screw-coupled with the screw-connected base, in which the outer edge is being convexly disposed with at least one holding hook. The holding hook and the holding assembly mutually prop up and couple the nut, after the nut being is completely screwed on to the threaded segment to prevent the nut from slipping off and thereby improving assembling and increasing the reliability of connection between the nut and the screw-connected base.

  • Patent number: 6024177
Abstract: An escutcheon locking ring for an automatic sprinkler head having an externally threaded section with a top portion having an engaging member extending therefrom comprises a ring having a plurality of tabs extending from the inner perimeter, and an outer perimeter having a plurality of escutcheon engaging fingers depending therefrom. The escutcheon engaging fingers are curved and are formed with sharp ends. When positioned between the bottom surface of the engaging member and the escutcheon, the sharp ends of the depending escutcheon engaging fingers penetrate the surface of the escutcheon. An attempt to unscrew the escutcheon from the sprinkler head causes the rotation of the ring until frictional contact is made between the extending tabs and the engaging member. Once frictional contact is achieved, a positive lock is formed preventing one from unscrewing the escutcheon from the sprinkler head. In an alternative embodiment, the extending tabs are replaced by extending U-shaped members.

Abstract: A locking threaded fastener of the wedge-action type is disclosed with threaded and threadless nut members with wedge elements therebetween for wedging the nut members apart when the threaded nut member is turned in the loosening direction. In a two-piece nut, the threadless nut member has a flat inner surface for engaging the workpiece and the wedge elements have engaging surfaces with a coefficient of friction therebetween which is less than that between the flat inner surface and the workpiece surface. In a three-piece nut, a third nut member, in the form of a washer, is provided with a flat inner surface for engaging the workpiece. The wedge elements have engaging surfaces with a coefficient of friction less than that between the third nut member and the threadless nut member which, in turn, is less than that between the third nut member in the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5090855
Abstract: A locking fastener assembly in which coacting cam surfaces are employed to generate wedging forces in response to backing off movement of the associated nut or washer at the conclusion of the normal tightening operation, thereby urging the nut into tighter engagement with the associated bolt and at the same time removing and reversing the residual wind up in the bolt created in the normal tightening operation. Coacting locking means are provided on the confronting faces of the elements of the fastener which operate to lock up the elements following the backing off movement so as to lock in the additional tightening generated by the backing off movement.

  • Patent number: 5011351
Abstract: A lock washer, a locking fastener assembly, and a method of providing a secure, inexpensive fastener joint. The lock washer has a convexly conical upper surface including circumferentially spaced cam surfaces separated by radial shoulders and a concavely conical undersurface. The washer is hardened relative to the associated nut so that as the washer and a nut are tightened together the upper face of the washer acts as a die which presses into the underface of the nut to form a mirror mating image of the conical upper surface of the washer on the underface of the nut. The fully torqued nut and washer define coacting ramp surfaces on the underface of the nut and the upper face of the washer which act upon any tendency of the nut to move in a loosening direction to increase the overall height of the nut and the washer so as to further tighten the joint. The washer is hardened to ensure that the surface of the washer cuts as a die into the lower surface of the nut.
