Nonmetallic Nut, Resiliently Deformed During Assembly Patents (Class 411/182)
  • Patent number: 7008159
Abstract: A screw grommet comprises a shank inserted into a mounting hole in a workpiece and a flange formed at one end of the shank that is larger than the mounting hole in the workpiece. A cavity is formed in the flange and the shank into which a tapping screw can be screwed after insertion through a hole in a member to be mounted on the workpiece. The shank has a rectangular cross-section appropriate for a rectangular cross-section mounting hole in the workpiece. Both the flange and a portion of the shank are divided by a plurality of axial slits. Protrusions are formed diagonally on the outer periphery of the shank separated axially from the flange by about the thickness of the workpiece. The screw grommet is able to obtain high retention force with respect to a workpiece without rotating together with a turned screw.

The screw-nail member may be used with conjunction with a spring fastener having a second head and two legs. The leading nail lower portion expands the legs of the fastener for securing a first object on a second object before the upper screw portion engages on the upper side of the second head of the fastener. Abstract: The present invention relates to a modular clip comprising a clip body having an internally threaded hole formed in its center and two open-ring type elastic members formed integrally with and protruded from both sides of said clip body, respectively. Each of said elastic members has a panel receiving recess formed along the entire length on opposite end portions thereof, respectively. Said elastic members are then extruded outwardly with respect to the main body when structure members mounted to an interior of the automobile and the main body of the modular clip are joined by a screw, and subsequently a circumference of an internally threaded hole formed on the body panel is received in the panel receiving recesses of the elastic members thus easing the mounting of said modular clip to the body panel.

Abstract: A fastener is configured for engagement upon a panel having a panel opening, and for engaging a mating fastener through the panel opening. The fastener includes a body having an axis of rotation, a peripheral edge, a main portion and a panel end. At least two lugs project from the peripheral edge at the panel end and are the points of fixed engagement with the panel without causing yielding of the panel or of the fastener. In another embodiment, a fastener system includes a fastener having a body with at least two lugs projecting from the body, a panel with an opening and at least two pocket formations disposed relative to the opening to receive the lugs and place the body in registry with the opening. The lugs lockingly engage the pocket formations as the body is rotated, the engagement being achieved without causing yielding the fastener or the panel.

Abstract: A synthetic resin grommet is provided which has a substantially cylindrical body having a flange portion and a head portion. The flange portion has an inverted dish-like shape and includes an elastically deformable vane-like shaped rim portion. Stopping claws are arranged on an outer circumference of the cylindrical body such that tips of the claws face the flange portion, and an elastically compressible annular rib is formed on top of the head portion of the cylindrical body. An upper portion of the head portion has a tapered face, and the annular rib is formed above the tapered face. With this structure, an inexpensive synthetic resin grommet is provided which exhibits sealing facility when it is fitted to a body of a car or a home electric appliance and when a part is attached thereto through the grommet, and which accurately and securely prevents the entrance of water into the body without requiring intricate procedures such a fitting of a sealing annulus.

Abstract: A fastener for connecting a first panel to a second panel comprises a head and a shaft, the shaft including a plurality of spring legs, each connected at one end to the head and flexing inward and outward relative to the one end. The shaft is dimensioned for insertion into an aperture of the second panel with interference against aperture-defining edges. A plurality of grooves are formed within each spring leg, each groove separated from an adjacent groove by a rib. The rib is configured having a ramped leading surface, a stepped trailing surface and a peak surface disposed between the leading and trailing surfaces. The grooves of one spring leg are axially misaligned with the corresponding grooves of an adjacent spring leg such that each spring leg alternately locks its grooves to the aperture-defining edges of the second panel as the shaft is inserted into the aperture. The head of the fastener can be modified to connect with the first panel in multitude of alternative configurations.

The anchor has a cylindrical body having an inner end that is conical and an opening at its mid-portion. A plurality of fins extend from the anchor body adjacent the outer end, adapted to abut the outer face of a metal stud. A threaded bore extends along the longitudinal axis of the anchor body. Abstract: This invention relates to a fastener, which expands by the insertion of an expanding member, preferably a screw. The fastener comprises a substantially flat head and two expandable legs. The head has an upper side and a lower side, preferably separated by a gap. The head also has an oblong hole in which the expanding body engages for securing one object to another object. The oblong hole represents a plurality of regular generally round holes, so that it becomes easy for the fastener to be located in difficult positions of the objects to be connected. The oblong hole has sides on different planes, and each side has an edge. Preferably, at least one of the two edges contains arcs for better guidance of the expanding member. Additional engagement may be provided at lower portions of the fastener for improving pulling force and/or prevailing torque. Further, an elastic body may be integrally molded at least at the lower side of the head of the fastener, and preferably throughout the head of the fastener.
