Abstract: A surgical fastener applying apparatus having a first jaw and a second jaw. The first jaw includes a cartridge body having plurality of surgical fasteners disposed therein. The plurality of surgical fasteners include a plurality of first surgical fasteners having a first backspan with a first configuration, and a plurality of second surgical fasteners having a second backspan with a second, different configuration such that the plurality of first surgical fasteners apply a first compressive force to tissue upon formation and the plurality of second surgical fasteners apply a second, different compressive force to tissue upon formation.

Abstract: A multiple coil staple is provided which includes a backspan and a pair of spaced legs. The backspan includes one or more pockets configured to induce coiling of the legs of the staple. A multiple coil staple applier is also provided which includes a pusher having a distal face defining a staple engagement surface and one or more staple deforming pockets. Each staple deforming pocket is configured to induce coiling of the legs of a staple. The multiple coil staple and staple applier facilitate joining of tissues having wider ranges of thicknesses using a single size staple.

Abstract: A novel carpet seaming method and tools for reducing or eliminating seam peaking and profiling is provided. The backing of abutting pieces of carpeting can be reinforced along their respective edges. A staple is supported on an anvil with its legs facing the carpet backing beneath the seam line while a hammer is driven onto the carpet pile and the underlying staple base. The impact of the hammer impales the carpet backing over the legs of the staple, and compresses the staple base against the anvil. The legs can then be forced towards each other to lock the staple in position. The process is repeated along the length of the seam line until a row of staples spaced apart from each other by a predetermined distance and extending from one end of a seam to the other end securely holds the abutting pieces of carpet together to form a seam. After seaming, the carpet may be stretched conventionally and secured to tack strips along the periphery of the area being carpeted.

Abstract: A bone fixation pin includes an elongated pointed shank having an enlarged head at one end thereof. A second shank projects axially from the other end of the head and is joined to a second head which, in turn, is integral with a third shank. An enlarged and relatively long head on the end of the third shank may be gripped by the rotary chuck of a tool for driving the pin. After the pin has been driven into the bone of a digit, the exposed end portion of the pin is detached from the pin by snapping the pin either at the relatively weak second shank or at the relatively weak third shank. A flexible tie for pulling two parallel pins toward one another and placing an osteotomy site in compression may be looped around each pin and captivated axially by the first and second heads.

Abstract: An apparatus for clip-stapling a cover which encloses a pre-fab building construction section which includes a pneumatic driving casing having interchangeable heads, wherein the shape of the head is flat for permanent fastening or flat only in the center resulting in a temporary fastener clip staple that is shaped flat in the center and raised rectangular sections at each end so that a three-pronged tool can be used to easily remove the staple without any injury to the resin plastic cover or the building structure section beneath said cover and including a hand drawn stripping which is housed in a canister that is fitted into alignment with the magazine chamber holding the staples.

Abstract: Presented is a fastener device of the staple-type which includes depending legs for penetration of an article to be fastened, and overlapping relatively movable interlockable web portions which assist in preventing inadvertent withdrawal of the fastener.
