Stepped End Patents (Class 411/497)
  • Publication number: 20130142590
Abstract: A fastening element, which may be in the form of a blind rivet or screw, is intended to be fired into an unperforated workpiece. In its front region that is intended to be fired into the workpiece, it includes a punching section which is formed in a cylindrical manner, and has a front end face which extends obliquely to the longitudinal axis. The punching section may be smaller in diameter than the body of the fastening element or else have the same diameter. The section between the end face and the outer side of the punching section forms a punching edge. On account of the oblique profile of the end face, said punching edge is arranged such that, when the fastening element is fired in, the punching edge first of all strikes the metal sheet at one or else at two points, and the opening in the metal sheet is enlarged by shearing off the metal sheet at a point migrating around the circumference.

  • Patent number: 5826391
Abstract: A formwork comprising a metal panel 11 having an upper portion 12, a lower portion 13 and a intermediate portion 14 displaced laterally out of the line of the panel 11, the portions 12 and 13 have spaced holes 15 through which reinforcing rods 16 project so that the ends of the reinforcing rods can be tied to similar rods in an adjacent slab to be poured in order to occupy the space at 17. A slab poured upon a timber deck 18 and the metal form provided by the panel 11 is retained in place by upright bracing rods 19 located at spaced intervals along the form 11 and passing through pairs of holes 20 and 21 in the intermediate section 14.

  • Patent number: 4728237
Abstract: A hanger adapted to be driven into a wooden frame member includes a one-piece stamped metal member having a head and a flat elongate symmetrical shank with a series of lands and grooves disposed on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of the shank between its tip and a pair of laterally extending shoulders on its head. Inclined camming surfaces extend between the lands and grooves and cooperate therewith to compress the wood fibers laterally of the shank as it is driven into the wood. A lateral gripping surface behind each land surface engages the wood fibers which expand into the distally adjacent groove to provide a positive gripping action which resists disengagement.
