  • Patent number: 11644084
Abstract: A sensor is used in measuring the torque applied to a slew drive. The slew drive includes a worm gear and a worm wheel and the sensor is coupled with a securing device that is used to secure the worm gear to the slew drive housing. The sensor generates a signal which is indicative of the torque on the worm wheel. The worm gear is secured to the slew drive housing by a first bearing and a second bearing. Two end plates and eight bolts are also used to further secure the worm gear and the bearings to the slew drive housing. By tightening the bolts, a compressive force is applied on the worm gear through the bearings. The applied torque on the worm wheel causes an axial force on the worm gear. The axial force is transmitted through the worm gear, the bearings, the end plates, and the bolts. One or more sensors can be embedded in one or more of the end plates or the bolts to measure the strain, in the end plates or the bolts, due to the axial force.

  • Patent number: 4709654
Abstract: A device for indicating when a lug nut has come loose on an automobile wheel. In one embodiment, the device operates by detecting relative movement between the lug nut and the axle stud on which it is mounted. In a second embodiment, the detected relative movement is between the lug nut and the wheel itself. In the preferred embodiment, the device has a first member with an open-ended channel and second and third members slideably received in it. The second member operates in cooperation with the sides of the channel and one of the springs to hold the third member in a retracted or cocked position when the lug nut is in its preferred, tight position against the wheel. Thereafter, should the lug nut come loose and move relative to the stud, the second member will follow or move under the force of its spring outwardly to maintain contact with the free end of the stud.

Abstract: A combination of a truck bed having side walls with an upper edge and a flange on the inner side extending downwardly from the upper edge, a liner for the bed having side walls positioned along the inner side of the flanges on the bed side wall, and a plurality of fixtures slidably securing the liner side walls to the respective flanges. The fixtures include a bracket seated on the inner side of the respective flange and on the outer surface of the liner side wall and screws, preferably of the self-tapping type, extending through the adjacent liner side wall into the bracket to hold the respective side wall against the flange in slidable relationship.

  • Patent number: 4462193
Abstract: An elevator cab is constructed of thin, somewhat semirigid skeleton. Panels, made of expanded core plastic, or honeycomb paper, are attached to the skeleton, thereby forming a very light and rigid cab. These panels are attached by means of releasable hook-like fasteners, thus permitting selective removal of the panels from the skeleton. Due to strategic location of the fasteners on the skeleton, the panels, when attached to the skeleton, create a rigid cab.

Abstract: A device for use with a toggle bolt of the type having a toggle threadable to a bolt. The device comprises a spool which has an opening for receiving the bolt therethrough. Connected to the spool is a leg member for extending along the bolt such that the toggle is guided by the leg member as the toggle is engaged by the bolt. The spool fits in the hole in a securing member through which the bolt extends to fix the bolt with respect to the securing member.

Abstract: A guard for a mine roof bolt assembly is disclosed. The guard consists of a cap having a cavity into which the mine roof bolt head is inserted. The cavity wall includes serrations which grip the bolt head and secure the guard on it. A continuous annular skirt depends from the cap and extends outward to completely cover the bolt plate. The skirt curves in the radial direction towards the plate so that the guard presents a substantially smooth curved surface to a passing miner. The skirt includes cut-outs corresponding to the positions of hanger loops on the bolt plate. The guards may also include luminescent or colored material.

  • Patent number: 4281580
Abstract: A hydraulic nut or washer or bolt head comprises piston means let into the recessed end-face of a body. Means for applying hydraulic pressure to a chamber or chambers behind the body are provided to urge the piston means in a direction which leads out of the end face. The piston means has an overall dimension in a first transverse direction which is less than the least possible overall dimension of an annular piston giving the same piston face area and having an overall dimension in another transverse direction, at right angles to the first, which is less than the least overall major dimension for a pair of opposed circular pistons giving the same piston face area. A sealing member comprising a layer of moulded deformable substantially incompressible material on a former is provided in the chamber to contain the hydraulic fluid.
