The mold cavity is then filled with the liquid matrix such that the short reinforcing fibers are distributed generally uniformly throughout the mold cavity, and the liquid matrix of the suspension is then hardened so as to form a hardened fastener body encapsulating the first and second reinforcing fibers. The molded fastener is then removed from the mold, either for immediate use or for subsequent processing.

    Abstract: A plastic encapsulated bolt includes a metallic insert having a head (e.g., a hex head, square head, or other type of deformed head) and a shank. An outer plastic layer encapsulates the metallic insert and forms a plastic encapsulated head and a plastic encapsulated shank. The plastic encapsulated shank can be totally or partially threaded. In one application, the plastic encapsulated bolt is used in combination with a plastic female anchor having an internally threaded portion. The plastic female anchor preferably includes multiple sections. The plastic encapsulated bolt includes a tapered threaded nose that engages the internally threaded portion such that the sections of the plastic female anchor expand outwardly as the plastic encapsulated bolt is threaded therein, causing the anchor to engage in an interference fit with a hole, for example, in concrete.

    Abstract: A fastener having a head and a cylindrical shank, the shank having a first set of opposed wings extending from two opposed longitudinally extending segments and a second set of opposed wings extending from the two other opposed longitudinally extending segments. Wings in opposing segments are identical. Wings in the first set have a larger radial diameter than wings in the second set. Wings in adjacent segments are offset a distance longitudinally. There is a longitudinally extending spacing between one radial edge of each wing in the first set and one radial edge of each wing in the second set. Each of the wings in the second set has a flattened portion on a distal edge that extends to a radial edge. The fastener is particularly useful for maintaining a high ratio of disengage force to engage force over a range of aperture sizes, shapes, and panel thicknesses.
