Patent number: 7897241Abstract: A composite spacer operable to be mounted on a first component is disclosed herein, wherein compression loads associated with attaching the first component to some other structure are born by the composite spacer to limit compressive deformation of the first component. The composite spacer includes a first body formed of resin and defining an aperture extending along an axis. The composite spacer also includes a plurality of first fibers positioned in the first body about the aperture. Each of the first fibers extends substantially parallel to the axis and increases a compressive strength of the first body relative to the axial direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2009Date of Patent: March 1, 2011Assignee: Rolls-Royce CorporationInventor: Edward Claude Rice

Patent number: 7891927Abstract: A fastening apparatus for fastening a component B to a component A enables an automatic compensation of tolerances in the separation distance between the two components. The apparatus consists of a receiving element 2, which can be fixed on the component A, an adjustment element 4, which can be screwed to the receiving element via a first thread pairing 28, 48 of a first thread direction, and a fastening screw 6, which can be screwed into the receiving element 2 via a second thread pairing 54, 56 of the opposite thread direction and can be connected with the adjustment element 4 via a detachable drag connection 46, 54, in order to also turn the adjustment element 4 when the fastening screw 6 is turned and to thereby move for the purpose of tolerance compensation in abutment with component B.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2006Date of Patent: February 22, 2011Assignee: Bollhoff Verbindungstechnik GmbHInventors: Ingo Burger, Hans-Ulrich Figge

Patent number: 7828501Abstract: A mounting mechanism is provided for securing an article to a wall. The mounting mechanism can include an insertion member, a base member, and a tab member. The insertion member has at least one hub formed thereon. The base member has a flange and at least one arm depending from the flange. The flange defines an insertion hole, and the at least one arm includes a guide. When the insertion member is provided in the insertion hole, the guide receives the at least one hub. The guide directs movement of the insertion member relative to the base member. The insertion member and the base member include a ratchet mechanism for maintaining the position of the insertion member relative to the base member. The ratchet mechanism can include a pawl formed on the at least one hub and at least one indentation provided on the guide. The pawl can interact with the at least one indentation. The tab member can be removably coupled to the insertion member.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2007Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: Moen IncorporatedInventors: Alan M. Bauer, Micah K. Thau

Patent number: 7815409Abstract: A method for joining bodies by melting down a joining element. The joining element acts on a surface of one of the bodies and penetrates the surface as a result of a directed force. Once in a penetrated condition, a mechanical excitation is generated such that during further penetration of the joining element into the one body, the advance is maintained through the directed force and the melting down is maintained through the mechanical excitation. Molten or melted material is hydraulically displaced into the bodies.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2006Date of Patent: October 19, 2010Assignee: Woodwelding AGInventors: Marcel Aeschlimann, Elmar Mock, Laurent Torriani

Patent number: 7802955Abstract: A dowel for insertion into an opening (12) of a wall (14), in particular on a vehicle body, has a shank section (16) which extends through the opening (12) in an inserted state and a flange (18) adjoined thereto and made of a first material component, and a sealing section (20) made of a second material component. The second material component is a plastic material which expands at an elevated temperature and tightly closes the opening (12) in the expanded state.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2008Date of Patent: September 28, 2010Assignee: TRW Automotive Electronics & Components GmbHInventor: Stefan Jatzke

Patent number: 7658581Abstract: A threaded element of plastic material for a joining assembly has a uniquely formed thread profile of a small profile angle between 30° and 50° and a rounded crest of a relatively large radius of curvature. The gap between the revolutions of the thread is of a volume which exceeds that of the thread. In order to provide for a specific cutting geometry of the thread profile the threaded element comprises a plurality of angular segments which are radially offset with respect to each other such that adjacent angular segments provide cutting edges. Furthermore, a tool and a method for making such a joining assembly are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2005Date of Patent: February 9, 2010Assignee: Bollhoff Verbindungstechnik GmbHInventor: Rainer Süβenbach

Patent number: 7581911Abstract: Plastic impact driven fasteners having relatively high flexural strength and relatively low heat deformation temperature are provided. Additional embodiments relate to methods of using the fasteners. For example, the fasteners may be used in a tire retreading process. In such a case, one or more fasteners may be used to secure new tread to a tire core before and/or during a curing process. The curing process may also cause deformation of the fastener, thereby eliminating the need to remove the fasteners after the curing process.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2002Date of Patent: September 1, 2009Assignee: Utility Composites International LimitedInventors: Pamela S.
