  • Patent number: 11959506
Abstract: A spindle nut retainer is used with a spindle with a flat portion on its threaded end. The flat portion interrupts the threads on the threaded end. A washer with a mating flat portion is slidably mounted over the threaded end and a nut is removably threaded to the threaded end of the spindle against the washer to set the preload on bearings. The nut retainer overlays a plurality of the corners of the nut and engages the threaded portion of the spindle with tangs. A majority of the tangs are flexed or bent to remain in biased contact with the threads on the spindle. Some of the tangs are located over the flat portion and remain unbent. The tangs resist rotation of the nut by engagement with the flat portion where it meets the threads.

  • Patent number: 9441495
Abstract: A retaining assembly for a tail rotor system is provided including a washer having a plurality of splines. The washer is configured to couple to an adjacent pitch change shaft. A retaining nut includes a self-locking feature and a flange arranged at a first end. The retaining nut is configured to threadably couple to the pitch change shaft such that the flange is in contact with the washer. The flange includes a plurality of first holes configured to at least partially align between the splines of the washer. A lock plate includes a body and a plurality of tabs extending generally perpendicularly from the body. The lock plate is slidably positioned about the pitch change shaft adjacent the flange. The lock plate is operably coupled to the retaining nut and the washer to limit rotational movement thereof relative to the pitch change shaft.

  • Patent number: 6558095
Abstract: A nut locking clip assembly holds a nut in a desired orientation. The clip assembly has a first member or arm secured to a structure. A second arm is secured to the first arm through a spring portion. The first member defines a hole whereas the second member defines a longitudinal opening. The longitudinal opening has two edges define a width that is slightly wider than the width of the nut head. When the nut is threaded into the structure through the hole in the first member, it is oriented to allow the second member to slide over the nut. The edges of the longitudinal opening or slot prevent the edges of the nut from rotating. To remove the nut, the second member is forced back toward the first member allowing the nut to rotate.

  • Patent number: 5207543
Abstract: A nut and a screw bolt form a screw connector, wherein the nut is secured to the bolt by a configured spring locking member. The locking member engages with one end the screw bolt and with the other end the nut, whereby the locking member has such a configuration that one end has a projection to engage a cotter pin hole in the bolt, while the other end engages directly or indirectly the nut. The two locking member ends are interconnected by a spring section which has such a configuration that a nut tightening torque moment is exerted on the nut when the locking member is in place. Further, the locking member is so configured that it exerts an axial compression force when its ends engage the bolt and the nut. This construction minimizes any reduction in the force exerted by the screw connector on the interconnected structural components.

  • Patent number: 4812094
Abstract: A locking fastener assembly for axle bearings and the like is free spinning during tightening and removal and is positively held against rotation after installation. The assembly is engageable with an axially slotted male threaded member and includes a nut with female threads and a flange end. A retainer washer includes spaced fingers formed around the nut flange for rotatably supporting the washer at the flanged end of the nut. The washer includes a tab received in the slot of the male threaded member permitting the nut to move axially but not to rotate on the male threaded member. When the nut is engaged by a wrench, the wrench releases a flexible and resilient locking clip to permit the nut freely to rotate. After the assembly has been threaded onto the male threaded member, removal of the wrench frees the locking clip and a lock finger is received in a space between fingers of the retainer washer positively to prevent further rotation of the nut.
