  • Patent number: 8662808
Abstract: The invention provides a type of elastic nut, primary comprising first and second compression slots allowing for compression and connecting strips at the bottom of the retaining nut, with the connecting strips in alternate positions, so that when the retaining nut is used to hold a plug in place on the bolt, and further torque is applied to the retaining nut, the nut is held in place on top of the plug with elastic force, effectively holding the plug in place more tightly.

  • Patent number: 8210783
Abstract: The invention relates to a threaded fastener. In particular, the invention relates to a threaded fastener such as a nut or a bolt. In an embodiment of the invention, a threaded fastener in the form of a nut (10) is disclosed. The nut comprises a main body portion (12); a lip portion (14) extending from the main body portion; and a recess (16) formed in the main body portion adjacent the lip portion. The recess is shaped to receive at least part of the deformable lip portion when a mating torque is applied to the fastener causing the deformable lip portion to deform. In this fashion, when the fastener is used to clamp two or more components together, such as flanges (20, 22) on adjacent pipe sections, the lip portion encounters a surface of the component that the fastener is being used to clamp against. As the fastener is torqued-up to a desired level, to provide a determined mating force, the lip portion is deformed into the recess in the main body portion.

  • Patent number: 8096325
Abstract: The conduit body assembly includes a metallic conduit body having an open upper end and a metallic cover removably positionable over the upper end. A metallic threaded fastener secures the cover to the body. The metallic fastener includes a threaded post and a nut removably attached to one end of the post. The nut and the post are formed of similar non-corrosive materials so as to resist corrosion therebetween. The nut is removable from the post in an environment where corrosion between the metallic fastener and the conduit body and cover prevents removal of the threaded fastener therefrom. Removal of the nut from the threaded post permits removal of the cover from the conduit body.

  • Patent number: 8016533
Abstract: A lock nut having a plurality of sides having a radius crimp which is consistent with the radius of the threaded bore in the lock nut. Preferably, the lock nut is crimped using a three sided die, each die having a radius crimp with relief angles. The relief angles are provided at a desired angle to result in the desired amount of contact area between the lock nut and the die. The device includes a housing, and the housing includes at one end a threaded bore which is configured to mount on a ram. An opposite end of the housing provides a tapered die section in which the three sided die is disposed. The three sided die is engaged with a locking die base which is movable within the housing.

  • Patent number: 5215336
Abstract: A locking assembly for fastening two components together, such as a fluid coupling assembly, is disclosed. A first member has a serrated annular surface and fastening threads adjacent a bearing surface. A second member has a flexible projection or projections or a complementary configuration to the serrated annular surface. The second member also includes fastening threads and a bearing surface. When the respective threads engage, they provide the primary preloading force to the bearing surface, while simultaneously the projections and the serrated detects provide a retention force to ensure a positive coupling.

  • Patent number: 5143499
Abstract: A temperature-sensitive, deformable cylinder locknut for use in high temperature applications associated with the operation of a gas turbine engine provides a secure fastener lock which resists torsional and vibrational stresses which may otherwise act to unseat and disengage the bolt. The locknut includes an undeformed threaded portion, an unthreaded transitional cylindrical sleeve portion, and a deformable unthreaded cylindrical portion. A threaded shaft contacts the cylindrical sleeve with reduced surface engagement to minimize frictional interaction and define a spiral volume therebetween to ensure the establishment of a non-permanent lock.
