Side Clutch Patents (Class 411/941)
  • Patent number: 6428257
Abstract: A locking nut includes a threaded main bore for receiving a threaded portion and a number of oblique bores in each of which is positioned a locking pin having a forward end for engagement against the threaded portion. The oblique bore and the associated locking pin have a common longitudinal axis extending at generally the same angle to the axis of the threaded main bore as one of the flanks of the thread of the threaded main bore so that the forward end of the locking nut has at least one flank generally parallel to the longitudinal axis and lying parallel to the portions of the one flank of the threaded main bore adjacent the inner end of the oblique bore. Each locking nut is generally cylindrical and possesses an outer surface that is grooved or serrated to facilitate insertion of the locking nut into the respective oblique bore.

  • Patent number: 4923323
Abstract: A fastener for use where a predetermined holding force of holding position is to be maintained while the fastener is required to exert a holding force less than the full maximum force it is capable of exerting, the fastener having a shaft portion that threadedly fits into a nut, the shaft portion having an angular cut forming a spring like member, with an outer projecting portion biased toward a surface of the nut for causing a resistance to rotation of the fastener relative to the nut, and wherein the nut may take the form of a thrust collar that receives a number of the fasteners for maintaining a bearing on a journal.

  • Patent number: 4911594
Abstract: A push-nut type fastener for use on a threaded stud comprises a thin planar metal plate having an aperture formed therethrough with its axis perpendicular to the plane of the plate. A first plurality of resilient fingers is formed integrally with the metal plate to extend radially inward from the periphery of the aperture at uniformly spaced locations with the inner ends of the fingers located generally on an imaginary circle having a diameter substantially less than the crest diameter but greater than the root diameter of the threaded stud. A second plurality of resilient finger members extends radially inward from the periphery of the aperture at locations intermediate the resilient fingers in the first plurality.

  • Patent number: 4784553
Abstract: A vibration-resistant attachment device involving a threaded stud having thread crests, and a sheet metal member having an aperture the edge of which constitute an element of an interrupted female screw thread through which element the threaded stud extends. The sheet metal member has a resilient tab which is struck from it, and the tab has an anti-backoff structure providing a sharp cutting edge which engages at least one thread crest, and enables by-passing movement of the crest when the stud is turned in a screwing-on direction with respect to the sheet metal member, and which bites into the crest so as to resist subsequent movement of the stud in an unscrewing direction. The construction is especially adapted for securement of a knob to a cigar lighter ignitor plug.

  • Patent number: 4692077
Abstract: A self-locking nut has an annular body, an axial threaded bore, and a hexagonal exterior periphery. A small bore is drilled through the body parallel to the threaded bore adjacent to an apex of two peripheral flat surfaces. An L-shaped locking pin has a base leg received in that small bore, and an interference leg projecting into the threaded bore for interference relation with a mating bolt. The distal end of the base leg is provided with an outwardly facing recess, and this distal end is retained within the nut body by cold flowing body material into that small bore and recess. The recess includes two abuttment surfaces which are disposed in planes inclined away from a plane parallel to the base leg and perpendicular to a plane defined by the two pin legs. These abuttment surfaces coact with the nut metal displaced into the recess to allow for rotation of the distal end of the base leg through an arc less than that required for the interference leg.
