Lid Feeding Means Patents (Class 413/35)
  • Publication number: 20140321949
Abstract: A seaming assembly (10) configured to seam a can end (14) onto a can body (18) to form a seamed container (20) is disclosed. The seaming assembly (10) includes a lifter assembly (27), a seaming chuck (28), and a knockout pad (30). The lifter assembly (27) is configured to lift a can body (18), and includes a spring (166). The seaming chuck (28) includes a surface (58) that is configured to contact a portion of the can end (14) during seaming. The knockout pad (30) is movable relative to the seaming chuck (28), and is configured to locate the can end prior to seaming. The spring (166) is preloaded to provide a force between 301bf and 901bf to the can body (18) when the lifter assembly (27) has lifted the can body (18) and the can end (14) has contacted the seaming chuck (28). The force provided to the can body (18) may increase to between 901bf and 1501bf after the spring (166) has been compressed.

  • Patent number: 8757953
Abstract: A chuck-knockout assembly for seaming a can end onto a can body to form a seamed container is disclosed. The chuck-knockout assembly may include an upper chuck body and a lower chuck body. The upper chuck body may include a first drive surface and may be rotatably coupled to a seaming machine frame. The lower chuck body may include a second drive surface and may be longitudinally moveable relative to the upper chuck body. The second drive surface may be configured to engage a periphery of the can end during seaming and disengagement of the container.

  • Patent number: 7125214
Abstract: Described is a seaming machine for use with a container (22) and an end closure (28). The machine includes a seaming head (62) with multiple shaft assemblies (100) and a lifter table (60) located below the seaming head (62) and including multiple container stations. During use, the lifter table (60) and seaming head (62) rotate in unison about the centerline of a spindle (64). A single shaft assembly (100) is provided at each station to perform a two-step seaming operation on its corresponding container (22). In one embodiment, a seaming cam (66) is located above the seaming head (62) for moving first and second cam followers (116), (118) in the shaft assembly (100). In another embodiment, the cam followers (116) and (118) have a master/slave relationship dependent on which step of the seaming operation is being conducted. In another embodiment, a single piece plate (122) is used in a cover feed assembly (120) and provides end closures (28) to a make-up point (30).

  • Patent number: 5214988
Abstract: A tube positioning apparatus has at least one mandrel for positioning tubes for processing. A variable tube positioning stroke length is facilitated for optimizing stroke length and for optimizing the time required to position and process tube, such as by cutting. The tube positioning apparatus comprises a slide block having a mandrel attached thereto. The slide block is actuated on a plurality of slide rails from a first position to a second position. In the first position, the mandrel is retracted and in a second position the mandrel is extended for access by processing tools, such as circular knives for cutting the tube into desired lengths. A programmable sequence timer is provided for establishing desired time intervals during which the slide block and attached mandrel are in the retracted position or the extended position.
