Rectilinear Movement Of Seam Head Patents (Class 413/36)
  • Patent number: 5358369
Abstract: In a can seamer, after a control mode of a drive motor has been switched to a type-changing mode, if an action button is depressed, in response to signals issued from a rotational position sensor, the drive motor moves can seaming mechanisms one pitch by one pitch via a center shaft and stops at predetermined positions. At the stopped position, an actuator is operated to depress the top end of a seaming roll shaft. By this operation, a gap clearance is formed between a rotary frame and a seaming lever. When seaming rolls are dismounted and replaced, the seaming lever connected with a seaming chuck via a bracket is removed, and thereby a type-changing work can be carried out. In addition, in the type-changing work of the can seamer, the vertical positional adjustment in a fitting between a seaming lever and seaming rolls is easily carried out. Furthermore, the knock-out pad can be replaced in a one-touch operation.

  • Patent number: 5214988
Abstract: A tube positioning apparatus has at least one mandrel for positioning tubes for processing. A variable tube positioning stroke length is facilitated for optimizing stroke length and for optimizing the time required to position and process tube, such as by cutting. The tube positioning apparatus comprises a slide block having a mandrel attached thereto. The slide block is actuated on a plurality of slide rails from a first position to a second position. In the first position, the mandrel is retracted and in a second position the mandrel is extended for access by processing tools, such as circular knives for cutting the tube into desired lengths. A programmable sequence timer is provided for establishing desired time intervals during which the slide block and attached mandrel are in the retracted position or the extended position.

  • Patent number: 4540323
Abstract: A cylindrical metal container with a relatively large holding capacity has triple seams having a vertically long, generally elongate rectangular cross section, the top and bottom parts of the seam having a convex substantially semi-elliptical or semi-circular profile. The outer face of the seam bulges outward adjacent its top, or its top and bottom, and the middle part between the top and bottom constitutes a pressed groove between the top and bottom and substantially parallel to the axis of the container. The body and end plate flanges are held in strong and direct contact with each other, overlapping each other in the center of the seam. A sealing compound is sealed in a void left between the edge of one flange and the curved portion of the other flange.
