With Fluid Pressure Actuated Pushing Or Pulling Means Patents (Class 414/17)
  • Patent number: 4404878
Abstract: Apparatus for feeding bar stock through the chuck of an automatic lathe. The apparatus is moved laterally by the turret to form shallow notches in the surface of the bar stock. The notches in the bar stock are gripped during longitudinal movement of the turret to advance the bar stock into the work area. A pair of cutting elements are adjustably located on one end of the apparatus to grip bar stock of various diameters. Guide blocks having interchangeable bushings to accommodate bar stock of different diameters are also disclosed for supporting the bar stock for rotation by the chuck.

  • Patent number: 4376398
Abstract: A bar stock feed arrangement for an automatic machine tool, in which a pusher rod, movable along the axis of a feed tube to advance the bar stock, is supported by an annular collar. While the pusher rod remains within the feed tube the collar is locked to the rod by means of a ball and socket arrangement. To permit the pusher rod to emerge from the feed tube the locking action is removed, the collar still assuming a supportive role at the end of the feed tube. Additional supportive means, in the form of split bushings, and a sound damping arrangement are also described.

  • Patent number: 4365529
Abstract: In order to reduce the outflow at the front of active liquid bathing the stock in a hydraulic stock-guiding tube of feed apparatus for an automatic lathe, a nozzle part is disposed at the front end of the guide tube in which the piece of bar stock is rotating and advancing. The nozzle includes one or more passages, through which a protective fluid is ejected, opening out into the inside aperture of the nozzle in which the bar is rotating and disposed in an oblique direction pointing toward the rear, i.e., against the flow of active liquid toward the front. This arrangement contributes toward lessening leakage of active liquid and increasing the pressure thereof around the bar, this increase in pressure in turn reducing noise and vibration in the feed apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4352615
Abstract: Feeder for automatic lathe, with a tube wherein the material to be machined is held by a plunger cum piston which can be moved hydraulically within the tube. The invention provides a hydraulical system connectable to the rear opening of the tube for exerting on the piston of the plunger a force directed towards the cutting tools, and also a cable or like flexible member, fixed to the rear of the plunger cum piston, which cable serves both to determine the exact position of the plunger and to pull it backwards for extracting the remaining stub when the bar has been fully machined. The cable is maintained under tension.

  • Patent number: 4221141
Abstract: Stock feeding method and means are disclosed for feeding bar stock to an automatic machine tool and in particular a computer numeric controlled machine tool. A collet chuck attached to the hollow machine spindle includes jaws for gripping stock and jaw actuating means to operate the jaws between closed and open conditions. Stock is loaded into an elongated feed and actuating tube mounted for both axial, and rotational movement at the same rate as the machine spindle. The forward end of the feed tube is adapted for operation of the jaw actuating means upon axial movement. A chuck actuator is located to the rear of the machine spindle for rotatable support of the feed tube extending therethrough, and for axial movement of the tube for chuck operation. A stationary protective and support tube coaxially surrounds the rearwardly extending portion of the feed tube.

  • Patent number: 4184798
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for simultaneously rotating and axially feeding an elongated workpiece past an induction heating inductor. The apparatus includes a collet having a passageway therethrough defined in part by radially displaceable fingers normally providing an opening of a diameter smaller than the smallest diameter of the workpiece. A workpiece is pushed through the collet and the collet is simultaneously rotated for the fingers to rotate the workpiece as the latter slides axially along the fingers.
