Patent number: 11359146Abstract: The present technology is generally directed to methods of decarbonizing coking ovens, and associated systems and devices. In some embodiments, a method of operating and decarbonizing a coking oven can include inserting a charge of coal into the coking oven and heating the coal. The method can further include removing at least a portion of the charge, leaving behind coking deposits in the coking oven. At least a portion of the deposits can be continuously removed from the coking oven. For example, in some embodiments, at least a portion of the deposits can be removed each time a new charge of coal is inserted in the coking oven.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2020Date of Patent: June 14, 2022Assignee: SUNCOKE TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT LLCInventors: John Francis Quanci, Chun Wai Choi, Mark Ball, Bradley Thomas Rodgers, Tony Amadio, Gary West, Dwayne Johnson

Patent number: 11214739Abstract: Systems and methods of dynamically charging coal in coke ovens related to the operation and output of coke plants including methods of automatically charging a coke oven using a charging ram in communication with a control system to increase the coke output and coke quality from coke plants. In some embodiments, the control system is capable of moving the charging ram in a horizontal first direction, a horizontal second direction and a vertical third direction while charging coal into the oven. In some embodiments, the coal charging system also includes a scanning system configured to scan an oven floor to generate an oven floor profile and/or oven capacity. The scanning system used in combination with the control system allows for dynamic leveling of the charging ram throughout the charging process. In some embodiments, the charging ram includes stiffener plates and support members to increase the mechanical strength of the charging ram and decrease the sag of the charging ram at a distal end.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2020Date of Patent: January 4, 2022Assignee: SUNCOKE TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT LLCInventors: John Francis Quanci, Chun Wai Choi, Mark Anthony Ball

Patent number: 9303210Abstract: An apparatus for the discharge of quenched or unquenched coke from a coke quenching car into a receiving device, providing that there is an extension of the pusher machine beside at least one coke-oven chamber, which is arranged in one line with the coke-oven chambers, and which is to be operated by the pusher machine, and that there is a receiving device behind the quenching car as seen from the coke-oven battery into which the coke can be pushed from the quenching car by the extension, the receiving device preferably being a wharf. A process for the discharge of the hot coke from a coke quenching car into a receiving device is also disclosed. Capacity bottlenecks of the quenching equipment are compensated so that the coke need not stay in the coke-oven chamber after the end of the coking process, or disturbances of the quenching equipment can be compensated temporarily.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2010Date of Patent: April 5, 2016Assignee: THYSSENKRUPP UHDE GMBHInventor: Sven Badura

Patent number: 8506760Abstract: A coking plant first and second longitudinally extending rows of oven chambers all of generally the same width and generally the same longitudinal spacing and together defining a corridor into which the chambers all open. The first and second rows are longitudinally offset from each other by a predetermined distance that is greater than the oven-chamber width A device for servicing the oven chambers and movable longitudinally in the corridor between the two rows of oven chambers has first and second service machines transversely facing the respective first and second rows and operable to service the chambers thereof. A coupling of variable longitudinal length between the first and second machines operable can vary the longitudinal spacing between the two machines.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2009Date of Patent: August 13, 2013Assignee: UHDE GmbHInventor: Franz-Josef Schuecker

Patent number: 7421801Abstract: A freeze-drying apparatus has a chamber (3) in which are located superposed charging plates (4) as well as loading and unloading equipment. The chamber has a loading aperture (2) equipped with closing doors (11, 12) through which the charging plates (4) are loaded. Equipment for loading the charging plates (4) with containers (5) is positioned in front of the loading aperture (2) and comprises a conveyor belt (6) which serves to supply the containers (5) and a transfer table (7) which is movable between an operating position and an idle position. The transfer table bridges a gap between conveyor belt (6) and the charging plate (4). A loading slider (8) provides push-wise transfer of a plurality of the containers (5) from the conveyor belt (6) via the transfer table (7) onto the charging plate (4).Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2006Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Gea Lyophill GmbHInventors: Hubert Kluetsch, Johannes Selch, Joerg Rosenbaum

Patent number: 5649800Abstract: A table for the transfer of fragile materials such as containers of freeze dried products, flasks, or the like, has a slide that displaces horizontally on the surface of the table. The table has a marginal section including a plurality of marginal tongues that independently pivot about an axis parallel to the edge of the table surface. The containers are moved from the surface of the transfer table across the tongues onto a support surface, or vice versa.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1995Date of Patent: July 22, 1997Assignee: Finn-Aqua GmbHInventors: Siegfried Hemmersbach, Heinz May

Patent number: 4276123Abstract: In a coke oven coke side door machine, a bottom tray is mounted to collect spillage that results from the removal of coke oven doors as well as the residue buildup that is scraped from the door seals and bottom plugs during the door cleaning operation. Trays, in the form of inclined planes, are extended from the door machine to catch the coke spillage from the oven and to catch the residue buildup which is scraped from the door jambs during the jamb cleaning operations. This material gravitates down the trays into the catch pan. A scraper then pushes the material accumulated in the catch pan to one end of that catch pan where a conveyor carries it to a dump bucket. The dump bucket can be dumped when the door machine is positioned adjacent a quench car. All of the above apparatus is mounted onto and within the confines of the door machine.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1980Date of Patent: June 30, 1981Assignee: Koppers Company, Inc.Inventor: William G. Patent number: 4276121Abstract: An extendible hopper is mounted to the undercarriage of a pusher machine and is operable to be extended to engage the face of the coke oven battery, between the buckstays and just below the door jamb, to catch hot coke that spills out of coke ovens as the door is removed and the pusher ram is retracted. A bin is also mounted to the undercarriage of the pusher machine to receive the hot coke collected by the extendible hopper. Quench sprays are mounted to the bin to quench the hot coke, and suction means are mounted to the bin to draw off pollutants that emanate from the hot coke and the quench thereof.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1980Date of Patent: June 30, 1981Assignee: Koppers Company, Inc.Inventor: Robert C.
