Wheeled, Load-transporting Type Vehicles And Means For Transferring, Or Enabling Transfer Of, Load From One Vehicle To Another Patents (Class 414/340)
  • Patent number: 5252020
Abstract: A collection system of recyclable waste includes one or more central vehicles loaded by one or more satellite vehicles all which segregate recyclable materials from non-recyclable materials. The central vehicles are loaded through openings matched to the bins on the satellite vehicles, the latter which may dump their contents along different axes, permitting the bins to be sized flexibly to the openings of the central vehicle and allowing the waste to be loaded and unloaded with a minimum of labor and with reduced risk of commingling. The axis of dumping of the bins and the placement of the receiving openings of the collecting vehicles allow efficient unloading of the segregated material without interference from traffic or unnecessary manual operation.

  • Patent number: 5143496
Abstract: In a transfer set, a retention hook rigidly secured for rotation with the tailgate of the truck body for rotation therewith. Entry of the trailer body into the truck body automatically triggers pneumatic elements to lower the truck tailgate causing the retention hook attached thereto to capture a trailer body retention pin secured to the outside of the trailer body. A solenoid operated directional control valve prevents the inadvertent release of the trailer body when the truck body is lifted away from the truck frame to empty contents therefrom. A single pneumatic actuator releases the truck tailgate and, when the trailer body is retained in the truck body, also the trailer tailgate.

  • Patent number: 5078560
Abstract: An intermodal transportation system for hauling bulk materials, particularly municipal solid waste, by rail and truck utilizes multiple rectangular, open-top boxes each having a removable lid. The system includes a forklift with an articulated frame actuated by hydraulics which engages channels formed in the box or in the lid. Lock bars on the box are clamped by locking members carried on the forklift to hold the box on the forks during an over-the-side dumping movement. The forklift empties the box with a roll-out motion combining a forward rotation of a lifted box with a backward movement of the box. A reinforced flatbed railcar receives up to four 21 foot long boxes and lids with a total carrying capacity of up to 100 tons. Each car contains upright corners that guide the boxes onto the railroad car and then restrain it. The containers are flush with the upper surface of the railroad car when engaged in the corners. A tractor trailer with a tilt-up roller bed and winch hauls the boxes on highways.

  • Patent number: 4826474
Abstract: An improved forklift device for unloading palletized articles from the bed of a flatbed truck may be removably carried in "piggyback" fashion on the rear end of the truck. The device has a fork structure adapted to liftingly engage one of the pallets, a wheeled, ground-supportable frame, and an articulated linkage structure which interconnects the frame and the fork structure and is movable between a fully lowered and rearwardly retracted position and a fully raised and forwardly extended position. The forklife may be propelled along the ground by an engine-driven hydraulic drive system, and is also provided with a hydraulic actuating system for pivoting gantry and boom portions of the linkage, and pivoting the fork structure relative to the linkage. In unloading the articles the fork structure may be moved a substantial distance laterally across the truck bed to liftingly engage the pallet of an article on the far side of the bed.

  • Patent number: 4746257
Abstract: A driveway for tractor-trailers is elevated along one side having a side coupling runner mounted to roll on wheels in a track along the side of the driveway facing a single-arm rotary loader. The runner is longer than the tractor-trailer and has a lift push gate at one or both ends for lowering in front of the tractor to push the runner along its track and has recesses for vertical coupling rods or tubes on the loader's trailer-lifting turntable to engage in to move the loader with the tractor to rotate the loader into alignment under the trailer and lift for transfer. Then the tractor driver can release the fifth-wheel and lift the gate and drive away. The loader is further rotated or driven and disengaged from the runner before the runner is returned by motor drive. The loader can load the trailer removed from the tractor onto a railway car as in my earlier U.S. Pat. No.

  • Patent number: 4721426
Abstract: Bridge plate for moving automobiles between railroad auto-rack cars characterized by an intermediate upright trues and two bracing trusses joined thereto of inverted trapezoidal cross section. A bottom plate joins the bracing trusses, secured by mechanical fasteners, and struts are interposed between the bottom plate and the intermediate truss to transfer a load on the intermediate truss to the bottom plate. The intermediate truss presents a flat top for one set (left or right) of the automobile wheels.

  • Patent number: 4540326
Abstract: A system is described for the automated transfer of wafer carriers containing semi-conductor wafers, to various work stations and processing units along a process line. The system includes tunnel and track segments which are joined to provide a path of desired length. A semi-conductor carrier rides on a cart, which is in one tunnel and is magnetically coupled to a motorized cart which is in a separate tunnel to keep contaminants away from the wafer carrier. The tunnel enclosing the wafer carrier is also purged with nitrogen or filtered air to keep contaminants away from the carrier.

  • Patent number: 4379669
Abstract: Tobacco handling apparatus that receives tobacco from a source, such as a trailer, and elevates it by a conveyor to a discharge end from which it is discharged in a flow path having a substantial maximum horizontal extent disposed above a container that has an elongated horizontal extent aligned with and underneath the flow path for receipt of the tobacco leaves in condition for subsequent curing. An oscillatable or reciprocable baffle, or a variable speed conveyor or feed roll is included for varying the horizontal extent of the flow path within the maximum extent in a generally uniform manner to cause the leaves to be distributed substantially uniformly along the elongated extent of the container.

  • Patent number: 4362292
Abstract: When a hoist is used to elevate a grain truck for dumping same, at an elevator terminal or the like, a pair of lift cables extend from the overhead hoist assembly to the cradle upon which the front wheels of the truck are engaged. As the truck is lowered after emptying the grain therefrom, the slack cables often foul the truck as it is being driven from the cradle. In the present device, each cable passes through a spring loaded arm normally urging the cables outwardly away from the sides of the truck thereby clearing same, but which are aligned against the spring pressure as soon as the lifting load is applied so that the cables run vertically from the hoist assembly.
