  • Patent number: 4647267
Abstract: Arm and fork mechanism for moving a refuse retainer with respect to a refuse container which has an opening in the upper portion thereof. Arms are pivotally mounted adjacent the refuse container. The arms are movable between a position adjacent a side portion of the refuse container and are also movable to a position above the refuse container. A plurality of forks is supported by the arms and angularly movable with respect to the arms. A fluid motor is operably joined to the arms and operably joined to the forks for angularly moving the forks with respect to the arms. The fluid motor is provided with a plurality of operation positions. Thus, the forks are angularly movable by the fluid motor to any one of a plurality of angular positions for lifting and dumping a refuse retainer.

  • Patent number: 4566840
Abstract: A dumping mechanism including a support frame having a vertical leg and a horizontal leg extending from the upper end of the vertical leg. A container lift arm is supported from the horizontal leg of the frame by means of a link member. A container gripping means movable between a gripping position and a release position is mounted on one end of the lift arm. A guide track member is pivotally connected at its upper end to the horizontal leg of the frame and is engaged with a roller on the lift arm to guide the movement of the lift arm. A power lift cylinder is pivotally connected at its upper end to the horizontal leg of the frame and is pivotally connected at its lower end to the end of the lift arm opposite from that upon which the gripping means is mounted. The power cylinder when energized moves the lift arm between a position for gripping a container when in a standing position and a position wherein the container is inverted for dumping its contents into a refuse vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4401407
Abstract: A grasping arm subassembly article has an inner arm pivoted to a frame with an outer arm pivoted between its ends to the inner arm. The outer arm is pivotally moved graspingly in response to pivotal movement of the inner arm by a linkage mechanism including serially pivoted first, middle, and second links. The second link is pivoted to the outer arm and the first link is pivoted to the frame. Advantageously, the middle link is pivoted to the inner arm at a point between its own ends and between the ends of the inner arm. A hydraulic cylinder is pivoted to the frame and to the arm subassembly for powering the arm.A grasping device suitably uses two or more such arm subassemblies movable inwardly and outwardly about the frame. In a specific example of a refuse container collection function, the grasping is done by a collection vehicle. The device for grasping the containers comprises a telescopically extensible boom assembly adapted to be mounted to the chassis frame of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4363588
Abstract: A refuse handling system including a portable refuse container with a side opening wall. A latching mechanism is provided on the container to lock the wall closed when the container is resting on the ground surface but that is released to unlock and permit the wall to be opened after the container has been lifted from the ground. The latching mechanism is unlocked by a cylinder operator on the fork loader of a refuse vehicle. The unlocking mechanism on the forks is operated as the container is lifted and tipped rearwardly. The refuse will then fall freely from the open container onto a conveyor at the forward end of the refuse vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4349305
Abstract: A lifting and dumping apparatus for use with a front end loading refuse vehicle. The apparatus includes a pair of lift arms which extend forward of the cab of the vehicle and which are pivotally secured to the sides of the vehicle. A rotatable front tube extends between the front ends of the left arms, and a pair of fork arms are pivotally connected to the front tube. The fork arms can pivot between an open position and a closed position. In the open position the fork arms extend forward of the lift arms, generally perpendicular to the front tube for engagement with a detachable refuse container, and in the closed position the fork arms are generally parallel to the front tube so that their projection forward of the left arms is eliminated. Hydraulic cylinders are provided for pivoting the fork arms, and a hydraulic circuit is provided with a sequencing valve to close the fork arms one at a time.

  • Patent number: 4310279
Abstract: A trash handling system including apparatus to pick up, dump, compact and store refuse material, all of which may be provided on a single vehicle such as a trailer assembly. The trailer assembly may be connected through a suitable trailer coupling to a pickup vehicle or other prime mover. Trash material is placed in a trash bin which is designed to be picked up and transported by an easily operated hand truck. The trash bin is wheeled to the vehicle on the hand truck and both the trash bin and hand truck are connected to a folding and elevating chute located on the trash haul system. The trash bin and hand truck are raised by the folding and elevating chute and the contents of the automatically opening trash bin are dumped into a receiving trough.
